Does any one know where i can get gas from to fit the gas thing from trckshack tht screws on?

you can get gas cans from b&q,

an alternative is lighter fule gas cans, and you dont need the screw on bit.

do you mean the cans that look like spray cans with a normally red straw sticking out of it

Just make sure you get butane, not a butane/ propane mix. You *can* use the mix, it will work, but propane expands a lot more than butane when heated, and an Edrig gas tank is right next to the boiler so heated it gets! Shouldn't be a problem, there's a massive margin of safety, but generally it's better not to risk it unless you know what you are doing, it says "butane only" on the gas tank for a reason!

i'v always used mix, and so have many people i know, and its always been fine

You can do, it works. Doesn't mean you should. Apart from the very slim chance of your gas tank going boom (like I said, huge margin of safety) it'll make it harder to set the gas at a consistent level as the rapid and continued expansion of the mix will make it more erratic, although I suspect you'd only notice the difference running on a flat track at constant speed. In these temperatures the mix actually is advantageous as propane condenses at a lower temperature than butane, so no spluttery burner as liquid gas gets through.

Still says "butane only" on top of the gas tank and they aren't going to put that there for the fun of it, although I know it's mostly just covering their own backs. I just can't see the point when butane is easily availiable and at no price difference that I've noticed.

Ah, I used butane/propane mix, and i did slightly wonder why I got from cold to SV pressure in between 5-8 mins! I only realised what my dad has given me afterwards!

I used a butne only as i bought sum today and ran it a bit earlier.

ah ,your only mend to run mix in winter as in summer you can melt up superheater .i konw i have done it when getting pressure i opened the reg and it put the fire out !!!

It wanted to do that with me as well, the fire suddenly went quiet and when I closed the reg, it came back????

may be worth see if you superheater has a pin hole i would pop it out the but it under pressure then see if it has

It only really matters if you are going to but boiling hots water around the gas tank, which I doubt you'll be doing on an Edrig.

That is a perfectly normal time to raise steam, Accucraft Garratts take about 15mins and but they have huge boilers. Don't worry about what PCLR said, there are plenty of people who run on B+P throughout the year, if it caused prolems with steam pipes then I'm sure there would be warnings.

Sorry- gas tank pressure not boiler pressure, should have made that clear.

It's fine at this time of year but slightly dubious when it's hot- different story on locos where the gas tank isn't by the boiler. Might not be sat in boiling water but it is sat by something that's full of boiling water, and made of a very good conductor of heat!

It's just like changing the safety valve from 60psi or whatever they pop at to 100psi. Perfectly safe to do, in theory- the boiler will take it- but it's reducing the factors of safety and not really ideal.

Like I said before, I can't see the point, unless the temperature is low enough (so, fair enough, like it is at the moment) for using pure butane to be a problem.
