That'd be my best guess. With it lit try moving the collar over the inlet holes a smidgen at a time and see if things improve. Try turning the gas down a bit too...

If no difference, then try as Mike suggested in the thread he's linked to. Certainly sounds to me like it's got too much air (which could of course be a blocked jet- throttling the gas has the same effect on the air/ fuel ratio as giving it too much air!).

Quick question, is there such a thing as a "safe" jet pricker? (ie one that won't damage the bore) or do you recommend "blowing back" through with the gas can?
A tip I learned from Bob Walker in Canada...
Use a cat's whisker ! Easiest without the cat attached
Worked for me a few days ago, luckily our cat lost two whiskers recently (if you're thinking what I think you're thinking at this point, NO I DIDN'T) :!:

Having had mine do this after just 6 fire ups I would Listen to Mike if I was you.

I had the exact same problem and Mike said to take the jet out, fire gas backwards through it, reinstall using PTFE take, give it a 5 second count of just gas before you light it. and hey presto, it worked, no messing around, easy peasy fix. Fires correctly everytime now using the 5 second rule.

The man fixes lots of these things, he knows what he is talking about, unlike me

Hope its all abck and working for you :D

Just as a follow up, I took apart the pipework from gas tank to jet, took the jet out, blew gas through pipework and jet, re-assembled and all is fine now although the servo's make a terrible whining noise.
