I have the money, but no internet connection on 30 September 2008. If I put a bid in early it is bound to be 'gazumped' at the last second.

What concerns me is that they only appear to have had it since January this year, and is it really necessary to sell it to fund a new house purchase (winning bid would not even cover the fees)? They mention a problem with the gas burners, but I'm rather suspicious about its sale - something being hidden from us me thinks.

Seems I'm the only one that is suspicious about this sale.

Hope the winner is not disappointed then!!

No you are not the only one Chris. I'm inclined to agree with you that something, somewhere is not quite stacking up. It may of course be absolutely genuine but, personally, I would be a bit cautious if I was thinking of bidding.

No, because you're bound to get more for it on eBay.

TonyW was telling me today that they are not the best built or the best running locos.

Well good luck to those that have persuaded their rich parents/grandparents/wives/partners/etc that they should be allowed to bid on this item.

I cannot get to Coalville in time to visit this item, will not be online at the end of the auction, and it would be stuck in a box waiting for my railway to be built. Plus I've been stung before on ebay for a description that missed a vital fact out in the listing.

So for these, plus my general instinct feelings, I've decided not to bid on this item.

you could get a brand new Lady Ann or something by the time it's reached the end of the auction...

I am always cautious with eBay, but having read it all, and he's offering you to visit the loco (that means he isn't guilty of something), I reckon it's genuine. He is a 16mm Assc member, but I think he's listed it on eBay for greater chance of getting a good price.

It is amazing how different people read and interpret listings. Nowhere in this listing does it actually say they are a member of the 16mm association, but I can see how you are lead to this conclusion.
If this loco is bought by a member of the 16mm association I'm sure it would be most welcome on the Vintage layout at next years show. I believe that the brake van won an award in the model of the year competition when it was built. It was modelled from measurements taken from the actual carriage on the Ffestiniog railway, and drawings of it were published in 16mm Today.
Reminds me of a question raised by one of our members on another group online about insurance cover for running locos, said he was a 16mm NGM member but by the approach of the visit his membership had lapsed.

And why no reserve price? Surely they are expecting a lot more than £500. Will be interesting to follow the outcome - what's the betting it is pulled early?

laalratty - My last posting obviously crossed with yours.

So you know the seller then. Any more details on the actual loco?

Not that I can remember, but he did post a few pics of it on the 16mm asociation e-group at the time, drawing quite a few "well thats a nice engine, your lucky to have that"
Personally I belive its probebly starting at the right price, those steamcraft engines were not the best engineered i've heard, although I would of thought if you have the right skills or could learn them then it would be a pleasant engine to own. BTW, the reason he is selling is because he is moveing to New Zealand, and I suppose I should say that I don't know him, but know of him as it were
