Bleak Mid winter steaming

A few piccies of some engines out on test at the PTLR last sunday

First out was the Fairfield Millie following regulator spindle work (trying to make it a little less livewire)

Next up out of shed was the was my own Caradoc following a 10 year mechanical overhaul and some cosmetic work. Its also doubling as the test bed for the all new PTLR "Vortex Manipulator" series of chuff devices.

Good lord is thing still here?

I've always admired this viaduct how was it made?

In short Reinforced Concrete.
Each Pier and arch was a mould of concrete cast in situ to one another with steel rebar tying the whole lot together. The moulds were made for the parapet walls but they were never added.

How were the arches made ply plastic bent. Sorry for asking but I have to make one see...

Good to see the 'doc out again, and looking very nice with all the mods you've made. Also nice to see my old goods van out in a train, looking much better then it did during its time here.

That caradoc is pretty decent. Accy engines always have a good steam plume don't they.

The curved arch was formed by a some thin ply curved round a series of support struts which were placed to the marking out on the inside of the mould. The mould was then placed on two already completed piers and the concrete poured. After about 24 hours the concrete would be dry allowing us to dismantle the mould and hey presto one arch.

A "Vortex Manipulator chuff pipe"? This does NOT sound like a suitable fitting for a steam locomotive. My concern over this railway and its staff continues to grow...

Some say that they threw conventional chuff pipe design out the window, and that the recently implemented token system was met by civil riots. All we know is their called the PTLR staff.

P.S We ditched the PTLR Bunker Buster name for the new chuff pipes as the two types work in completely different ways.
