Buildings for Dummies
Hi everyone. I want to start a 16mm railway, and I have no experience of anything remotely garden railwayish... Does anyone know how to make good looking buildings (churches cottages etc) easily and cheaply?
Many Thanks,

There is this guy on You tube who has a steep mineral line in 16mm. He build building from Polystyrene packing sheet. These are textured with a soldering iron to make the rough stone look. Last they are painted with exterior masonry paint. Plastic sheet roof or corrugated tin. The windows are 16mm products. This is a very cost effective way of building...

I don't have a line of my own and hence no builders either, but from visiting other people's lines, it seems that not all buildings are left out all of the time. The more vulnerable ones are brought indoors, space permitting. I should think for wooden buildings a varnish or one of the fence treatments would do the trick, you can get out door stains and varnishes in all manner of colours these days.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
