Brandbright Hudson Rugga skips

I just got off of the large online auction house a Brandbright Hudson Rugga 1 cu yard skip.

A very impressive kit and the whitemetal and brass etch are well done.

The only question....what color were the Hudson skips from the factory?

Also, how do the Binnie ones compare? THey are supposedly both 1 cu yard/27 cu ft skips.

I believe they were grey and become rusty quick. Some people paint then re oxide as this is a good commercial treatment for rust, in real life. Companys have been known to paint them after rust treatment as well. But I think Grey is correct but with rust asap after.

Thank you. I assumed it was some primer color, grey, oxide or zinc-chromate.

And yes, I assumed they did not stay clean long!

The Slaters skips look nice as well, but are smaller .75 cu yard and without the center stiffners, appear to be human/animal types, not locomotive service?

The centre stiffener was there specifically to cope with the buffing forces generated by loco haulage.

That's funny... I thought they only ever came in clay slurry colour - grey-brown! In fact just about everything was clay slurry colour at the local tileyards.

BTW, I discovered the other day that the quarry my great-grandad worked in had a 3' gauge steam hauled railway.

Cool that you father worked at a steam hauled quarry. Both of my grandfathers were accountants, nothing so interesting.
