Manx Mafia are after me....

Post by New Haven Neil » Sun Sep 09, 2012 12:39 pm

For this! :P

Rattle can paint, (engine enamel, doesnt go sticky when hot like acrylics) BBQ matt on smokebox, hand brushed Humbrol on wheels, lining and sneaky Leodest & Larivane crest by Chris Moxham (Chris's bespoke transfres - usual disclaimer).

Like? Appalled? Discuss..... :!:

I hope the mafia catch you! ;)
Although it's not as bad as the blue livery Hutchinson carried for many years...

Quite handsome and an interesting might-have-been, but not a patch on the original MNR livery IMHO! Mind you, it will look good with red-and-cream Manx stock...

Well, it's obviously not a model of Caledonia since it's No12 not No15, so our three-legged friends have nothing to be upset over. Clearly Dubs must have built more to the same design for other customers. BR livery but non-standard number is reminiscent of the Isle of Wight. Skye narrow gauge network?

It's your line so if you like it then who cares what everyone else thinks ;)

Good job in my book!

You win - almost! Not BR livery.... the crest has the legs of Man on it if you look closely, and the wording is 'Leodest & Larivane', a little known (ahem) northern branch of the MNR from Sulby Bridge to Bride via Andreas, where this prevserved remainder is located!

Oh, three foot gauge is standard gauge here... it's you 32mm folk that are well narrow, broad gauge is what they use on the adjacent island main lines I believe..... 8)

Gets my seal of approval! Excellent touches with the BR crest changes - the triskelion in the wheel is an interesting addition...

Manx Mafia...

<Lurch voice>
You rang, Sir

Actually, it is a great deal better than that crappy dark blue she was painted in the early 2000s. Not one of Mr Howard's better ideas that. The trouble is that black, although nice, is not quite as nice as the original MNR Claret. Just as a BTW, I wonder what Caley looked like in 'between the wars Green?'

Love it!

Did you say you used engine enamel on the body? Was this from Halfords?

It looks fantastic, keep up the good work!

I am currently painting two of the IoM 4-wheelers into full Southern Railway Livery. ;-) They would look great with that!

That looks very smart indeed.

Bizarrely it makes the loco look more VIctorian than the elaborate Victorian livery the model is also available is. It looks quaint and old fashioned. I LOVE IT

Did I mention I have a blue one too.....   Winds the locals up....

I really don't like the original MNR livery, just too twee for my tastes, and the Indian red is....yeuch.   Was she dark green?  I'll have to go and read DLJ's book again!  She was of course very briefly Ailsa green.

As for the engine enamel, no, not Halfords, we don't have such a place here on Fraggle Rock, it was from a local car bits shop, I'll have to check the can for the make when I'm at home.

http://www.cbtransfers.co.uk/ for transfers - e mail Chris and tell him what you want, he's good.

Shades of the old Adams radial tanks on the southern, superb I say.

Very nice, Neil! I have a Cale in the colour you don't like, though I have been tempted to repaint it into green. I really would like to dispense with the vacuum gear, and that may be an excuse...

Ah, like the comment about the Adams radial tank - yes, it is reminiscent of them as much as the 02's mentioned earlier.

The MNR livery really does leave me cold, it's an odd thing as I like Cale herself so much.

Oh, she was 2 different shades of 'old' green by the way, before the indian red, according to DLJ's book, and he isn't one to be wrong! The original coat being darker than the second. I do still fancy Ailsa green though, but I don't suppose I would have three Cale's. Then again, I have been known to be wrong.........

I knew it reminded me of something, a beattie well tank boiler with an Adams 02 bodywork minus the rear bunker. Always liked the 02's and Terriers especially in black, explains why this looks so nice in my eyes.
