Vintage & Oscillators day!

Post by DolwyddelanLightRail » Mon May 07, 2012 11:43 pm

I thought this day should have a separate thread from the usual Sunday evening one! but all in all, a big turnout of the forumites with a hefty lot of mamods around! But I'll let the pictures do the talking! :D

I'd brought along 3 mamods myself, Britomart, H.G.Butler and the new work in progress Dolmur Goch

Image

Image

Running around was this very nice GVT loco!

Image

and also laurence603's Ofario, which also performed just as well! :D

Image

DLRdan let Robin loose

Image

Whilst the steam up bays slowly collected more locos during the day

Image

Doug brought along Swordbreaker and also Cadno

Image

And just to keep with the Vintage touch, Furnass No.20 was around running!

Image

It wasn't too long before Britomart was let loose

Image

Image

and neither was it too long before Ofario and Brit ended up double heading!

Image

and whilst all that went on, more locos accumulated in the sheds!

Image

Image

NarrowMinded brought along Lady of Sherwood!

Image

Image

Image

and of course NM also brought along Ogwen with it's new headboard :lol:

Image

and later on when me and Laurence had finally got the hang of running Brit and Ofario together, we felt like adding a bit more weight, and Dolmur Goch was perfect!

Image

and when Ofario decided it didn't like it's tender, Britomart carried on by itself

Image

and suddenly decided it wanted to steam like anything, so to keep it quiet I shoved this lot on the back....

Image

Image

This very nice Silver Lady came along!

Image

Whilst an old Merlin loco went round, but had to be brought in early as the batteries on the R/C died, so it ran round out of control!

Image

and whilst Ofario had a little run with DLR's stock, this Leader which was going faster than most the mamods zoomed past!

Image

and as the day started to die down, I decided to get Dolmur Goch in steam to see whether it would work....

Image

and it did! :D Just needs some running it now!

No doubt there'll be more pictures to follow off other members on here! :D

Regrettably it was SB that was the only ossilator failure of the day. I'll post some photos tomorrow of what I got but for most of the day I was firing my Caradoc, Cadno after the immense [to me anyway] disappointment.

After this, I'm mulling deeply mind as to where from here.

Sorry for the delay, I caught up on some much needed sleep on sunday evening, and we've just got back from our gig in Leeds tonight (02:01):roll:

However - here's the vid;

With it being my first visit to Butterley, I was hoping that Ofario would preform rather well and not throw a hissy fit... I was pleasantly surprised that she ran so well apart from when the loco decided it would lend Britomart its tender and go off on its own... Oh and the required amount of cab fires... Anyway long story short... she needs a repaint...

Here's some pictures from a spectacular day out!

Image
one of the many refuelling sessions.

Image
Lots of locos!

Image

Image
Ofario and Britomart hitting warp speed!

Image
We did eventually get the hang of this double heading melarky..

Image
Its not easy to re attach the tender when the front bit is hot!

Image
Trebbers locos and the inevitable Oh crap its on fire again!

Thanks to all for a really good day... In the words of Schwarzenegger... I'll be back!

Sirs, am I correct in thinking that the model on the far left is a Mamod conversion of a George England Ffestiniog loco?

Again, as I posted over at the Mamod forum, great photos, makes me feel like a real lone wolf here in the US.

It most certainly is! I believe it's a "Kenverisons" model?

Its a custom built one using tin plate, made in the late 80's

Now for my share of photos...and apologies for 'breaking' the 'theme of the day'....!!

..a great array of engines; a 1989 Jubilee and a custom George England Mamod for two...
Image
~

Another view of the Mamods prep lane, showcasing Ogwen, Brit and even Dante - the smallest engine there!
Image
~

A 'little' engine on the Main Line...
Image
~

After Swordbreaker was declared a failure, time to ditch the Gala theme and fire up the big guns...
Image
~

'Cadno' again, going away with a set of borrowed bogie coaches - very heavy solid wood ones! Meanwhile, DLRDan's custom Mamod, "Merlin" chuffs serenly above on the top line

Image

~

Speaking of 'Merlin' - with a quarry train - very grand looking indeed! :D

Image
~

Speaking of Merlin [II] - a vintage Mayflower came out to play!
Image

Image

~

Back to the mamod Merlin -a close up...

Image

~

Onto other blue Mamods, there came and went Britomart...

Image
too late, me!

~

Hiding from the camera...

Image

~

Taxi for one!!

Image

Yes, D-Goch DID decide to get lazy and hitch a ride...the scary thing is, Britomart just walked away with it! :lol:

~

Time for Laurence's 'Ofario' to get in on the action...

Image

~

Three flagship engines - Laurence's Ofario, James' Britomart and my Cadno passing by...

Image

~

Ofario again...

Image

Image

Image
~

Britomart and Cadno's trains passing..

Image
~

This Silver Lady / Lady Anne came out to play!

Image

~

Falcon trundles around...

Image

~

Ofario and Cadno cross...sort of.

Image

~

TITS! The Trent Industrial Tramways Soc special, mind ;)

Image

~

The TITS Special about to depart..

Image

Image
~

At one point this varmint was let loose and ran away, crashing into the back of Cadno....!!

Image

Damn Leaders....damn kids...:twisted:

~

As a result, Cadno's back buffer was shorn of its hook - luckily, no other damage was done. Result being a quick turn around and Cadno allowed to stretch its wheels in reverse for a change, hauling its Express :)

Image

Image

A Happy Ending for this episode however: having contacted Mr. Accucraft via the AC website, he noted that he had just replaced his demo Mortimer's buffers for new choppers - and so despatched the old buffers to me free of cost!! :D The new buffer has been fitted and Cadno is once more a happy engine.

~~~~
A small engine skulks along at a quiet time...
Image
~
A Bertie appears!
Image
I have to admit, I took the chance to examine and look over this - having never met a Bertie before. I also managed to get my way to make a comparison between AC and RH's 'beginner' engines..
Image
Image
The Bertie isn't that much smaller but feels like it compared to the square chunkiness of the 'Caradoc' loco!
~~~

And finally, James managed to get the WD Grey Mamod working...D-Goch into steam and it worked! :D

Image

~

Cadno, taking charge after Swordbreaker's substituition.

Image

~

It was a very good day indeed and a pleasure to meet and speak to new folks, including Laurence, his Mrs and Brian as well as actually chat to DLRDan this time. Would do it all again - except next time make sure Swordbreaker a)runs more and b)doesn't do it's audition for Halloween :lol:

Britomart = BR Blue, superboiler fitted, meths fired, tendency to set fire. Brass rods.

Merlin = darker blue, MSS Gold lining and logo, has the custom round smokebox. :)
