Penrhyn livery

Post by dougrail » Sun Jun 26, 2011 8:10 pm

Evening chaps

As part of my 'convertible' loco I'm having two liveries. One is GER blue, lined in red and black sides. That's easy enough.

The other livery I intend to have a quarry loco livery. I have gold, red and white trimming available.

Would I be right in believing that either Penrhyn or Cilgwyn locos as well as the famous blue and red lining, some had a white and red lining?

I see some photos of Lilla on the Ffestiniog and they differ; some she has the blue and red, but others it looks like red and -white-. Was this really the case?

Many thanks

I believe, but stand to be corrected that they were lined brown and red in the early days, i seem to remember that this was in Boyds book on the quarry, cheers, Rob

There were indeed two versions, red and blue and red and white. What I don't know is which period relates to which lining scheme. I imagine a google search will bring up some images of use. In particular, look for photos of Linda from between 1996 and 1999 ish

Linda was under overhaul in 1996. Returned to traffic in 1997 with pale blue and red lining. Repainted 2001 with darker blue and red lining.

I couldn't remember if it was 1996 or 97, I was rather hoping you would correct me if I was wrong. Must admit, I always thought it was white rather then pale blue, obviously I wasn't observant enough when it was running like that!

Sorry to say, but no. Well, not while at the FR. It might have been in previous ownership.
