I still need to add cross braces both sides to the middle section, then maybe handrails or guard rail of some description. Think I will paint it though as apart from the GWR wooden viaducts it's just more common in the UK for metal structures. Can't decide on dark grey or red oxide yet though. Still need to trim the excess wood & remove the bits of screw that stick out. Next project bridge will hopefully be a free standing structure with a lightly made trackbed as well.

In other news my Edrig is a year old this month..Aside from my mamod fleet this was the first "complex" steam loco I bought. It has done space shuttle mileage now. Not used as much as it was but it used to trundle along my test track at the old house almost everyday. Apart from it's gas tank issue (poor duration) it has been a solid performer. Looking for a new gas tank now (maybe ask one of those places that convert Edrigs to coal??) & new uprated burner. When it runs it is just such a good loco & only let down my it's short range.

Birthday video! :D

I was told recently that metal bridges are usually painted light grey to reflect sunlight (what little we get!!), and minimize expansion.

Happy Birthday to the edrig! :D

Co-incidentally when I looked at the boiler certificate when I got mine in november 2009, i found that the boiler was tested on my Birthday that year! :D

Bridge is now painted grey, looks a load better I think.
Then broke the edrig trying to improve it... :-) was trying to improve the needle on the gas tap as it used to leak a little unless really really tight. Must of messed that up as it now won't close at all... oops. Oh well I'm after another tank and needle valve anyway.

How many times does that happen eh? Having a good time out playing on yer birthday then getting rushed to A&E and eating yer cake through a straw!
I'm staying in next monday!
(Oh no I'm not - it's a "St Trinians" theme at the club, especially for me  )

Got a few little projects on the go, well if I get a chance anyway.
First trip to see Steve at B2B6 this year, always come back with idea's (& less money).

He has started selling corrugated iron sheets (In alloy), not cheap I suppose at £1 each but will do until I get one of those crimper things. Plus had a thought about making farm carts & these wheels will help.

This van was in the secondhand pile (seems I missed all the coaches he had secondhand...) The CVLR's loco dept has been looking for a tool van for a while, something to carry rerailing equipment & supplies about in. This fairly old scratchbuild fitted the bill perfectly. Runs really nice as well, just needs a different paint job ( maybe just paint the ends & weather).

Nice van but a bit bright at the mo' - looking forward to seeing it once you've toned it down! :D

Agreed, it's a bit "LGB"! :D The loco dept like it though as it has a low floor so less effort to lift cumbersome heavy jacks from the ballest back into it.. See look at that, how it fits in.. ;)

Very nice van, lots of detailing :P
As Greg said, will look good when you've toned it down. Just needs lots of grime slapping onto it and maybe some lettering.

Nice! I see that you're like me with the attitude "It's not a model railway, it's a real one but small" :D

Exactly it is a small but real one, but this one I can make a difference with unlike the larger one I tinker with daily..!

Oh & years ago I remember having to lift jacks & rerailing equipment into a Mk1 BG as a punishment for putting my first 08 in the dirt.. They are quite high from the ballest. ;)
So low floor & jacks is the way to go.

Think I have decided on this as a livery for the Loco Depts tool van...

Still needs lettering & a matt finish with a little bit of aging rather than weathering, the CVLR's loco dept look after there stuff unlike the C&W lot.

Added lifting chain storage to one end of the van, I know in real life it would be easier to have it stored inside but less of a feature there. Vac brakes fitted so no brakevan needed. Also lamp irons for a tail lamp but positioned so that it can carry a headlight if it is required to be propelled out to a job..

Just waiting for paint to dry now & then more tweaking.

LOL Keith, it would be a plan to keep the cat/Daughter off I suppose. But no it's not. I have run wire along my telegraph poles to feed lighting at remote points on the line, just need to fit it in better there under that bridge. Still at the trial stage to see if I can get on with it. All the wire is ex Stourbridge Jcn PSB from when they upgraded it from an Solid State Interlocking (SSi) level 1 to 2 in 1998. I kept all the wire they stripped out, who says I'm a hoarder!! :D

The van's looking great Shane, quick question - whose vac pipes have you used, they look neat! :D

Greg missed your question before, Vac bags from B2B6 mate.

Loco depts van just about done & in time to enjoy a blissful day on the line today (only one fleece on!).

A few pics of the van in traffic (must be run in trials to be out this much)..

Well the lines been shut for the last 24hours due to engineering works on Llangunllo bank.. :D Reopened this evening at 6pm with a tempoary speed limit imposed. :D

In reality I finally got round to starting building up an area of the line that was in the middle of the line devoid of scenery. Originally it was intended to put a small water feature in here but the more I looked at it the more I realised it would be too cramped. Instead I stole a location just a few chains from the real Llangunllo bank on the Heart of Wales line. Everytime I drove past this place I always said I would love to live here... ;)

Anyway it was like this...

Now after doing this....
Image
New bridge goes in...

Image
Thermalite blocks cut in half & then halved again before being scribed with course stonework. The solid block will be turned into the house I liked on the HOW.

Image
Pond still needs building underneath or might just do a slate scree kind of thing there, not sure yet. But hope to bed in retaining walls either way.

Image
Image
A view down the line past the new work. 6 Fir trees planted to hopefully enclose the area a little & detract from the shed. More concelling work will be done to shed yet.

Image
Hoping the retaining wall takes up the moss finish that other thermolite blocks on the line seem to. House removed whilst base sets.

Image
A similar view to the first pre work photo. Think it will make another nice photo area as well when more plants & the trees have grown in better.
