Forum Locomotive

In my thread about laser cut flatbeds which has evolved into covering a loco as well someone said it could be the forum loco. Rather than going with something I'm already working on, how about we see if we can do a "design by committee"? Post something you would like; it can be a picture of a real loco or a sketch you have drawn yourself. I will assess what lends itself to laser cutting and then we can put some candidates to the vote. I'll draw up the cut files and make some kits. I won't do the work for free but I promise to keep the price as low as possible and I'm happy to share the cost of the various components used. To keep it simple and cheap I propose drive on just one axle. It should be something that will trundle around with a few wagons or skips, not a full rake of VoR coaches. Let me know what you think? Please be aware that I will have to fit this in between two moves (one to Luton, then one to Germany). My family is staying in the UK until the end of the school year so I will have lots of lonely evenings in Germany to work on the CAD drawings.

Let me know what you think and start posting some suggestions.

Michael

Is it possible to produce a body only option for a user built/bodged chassis?

Using the link without "thumb" works better:-

Hi it was my suggestion I'm afraid, Maybe I suggested too much because I am a newish member and can't speak for the whole of the forum but I'm in favour of the idea for a forum designed diesel shunter.

I would suggest some minor clarification is needed.
What gauge(s) can it run on (I'm not gaugeist but it helps if you know)
Are we looking at an 0-4-0 only?

Maybe a bit too ambitious for the design spec but different to what's generally available commercially - this is what I'd like to see...

That look achievable with slab sides then bits added in balsa for shaping.

I think this is what MRail was trying to post up?

Yes precisely, although my link was to the red version shown in the subsequent post.

Just to be awkward, I'd prefer green.

I rather think the general idea of the kit would be to build it and paint it yourself - in which case it'd be any colour you want! :D

Any paint and detailing would be up to the individual.

The LGB Deutz is certainly easy to adapt for laser cutting.

It would, as would the Ruston, but my vote would still go towards something a little "unusual" and different from what's commercially available. ;)

I like the Ruston.Being simply box shapes I would think it lend it self to laser cutting.A lot of scope for personalizing.I also like Adover but that looks a little harder to make.

I'd be interested in having one of these. I rather like the LGB diesel idea. Would you be able to do it in 45mm gauge?
