Can I paint my mamod with humbrol paint?

Post by 90733 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 7:01 pm

I recently got a mamod (of PendoPilot) and soonish want to repaint it blue, and wondering if normal little tins of humbrol paint can be used on the body work?

Also does it have do be enamel paint?
Jack
Thanks

I think that a Mamod would get too hot for enamel paint - Roundhouse paint will stand the heat (as will the powder coating used by Mamod). If you stripped the bodywork back to the bare metal and talked VERY nicely to those NICE people at Doncaster, you might just be able to get it painted Roundhouse blue!

I have two mamods that I've repainted with Railmatch spray paint on the bodywork & both are still perfect after lots of running. I always paint the boilers with VHT spray paint (the stuff sold in motorist shops for spraying exhausts & engine parts. Comes in amongst others, black). Infact No 3, the one you bought was stripped down ready to be repainted that way.

BTW I have found the spacer, well I found it the other day & trying to remember now where I put it! It had the bolts in as well.

Will try & find it again..

I cant see why humbrol wouldn't work on a mamod but i have never tried it. I have always used car paints which have always held up to the heat very well, I have even used the same paint on boilers with no sign of discolouring or flaking.
