Descaling boilers

I should have asked this a while ago but it has taken another dry boiled loco to remind me. Is there a way of descaling a boiler safely and how do you get the mucky water out.

I would use kettle descaler which you can buy from your local supermarket: perhaps use it a little stronger than suggested and warm the boiler with the gas (don't put the safety valve back in).

The mucky stuff should come out of the safety valve hole OK.

I use viniger, leave it in the boiler for a day or so and light the burner up until it reaches boiling point

white wine vinegar is best- does a bloody good job of the kettle!! (And my grandad's vincent)!!
