Gents - what thickness generally do you use for building locos - I guess the chassis may have a more heavyweight thickness than other areas of the body? Armed with your responses, you'll be able to spot me at Peterborough carrying unfeasible amounts of sheeting around!

This loco has 2mm for the chassis and 1.5mm / 1mm for the body depending on the location. Small items like the doors are 0.75mm

The Revell like the one above is absolutely perfect for plasticard, never used anything better for it

I agree with the above, plati-weld / contacta are best. I do use a little superglue for adding any small metal or wood parts

Hi Guys

I have got some more done on the loco and had a really good test run - video below!

The hardest part this week was to get all the electronics fitted but its done and works well, I am over the moon with the ACME 2 stroke sound card.

Here are a few pictures:

RC on left and sound card on the right....it all fits in...just - both ends of the chassis have a cover to protect the electronics:

Cheers James - Peterborough was great and the CHLR now has its first steam loco ( a FR Maroon new Millie)- had its first test steaming static tonight and all went - hoping tomorrow to get it onto the line hitched to your wagon - pics hopefully will be obtained!

Evening all, thanks for all your nice comments, has spurred me on to do some more work so here is a little mini update:

I have some more detail on the buffer beams, a driver and started the lettering and weathering:




And a test to make sure she is 7-year old proof...passed with flying colours as my son puts her through her paces!

Nicely made video with no nausea inducing camera shake and more importantly, trains running at prototypical speeds.
A pet hate of mine is that so many modellers in all gauges insist on running their locos at a scale 100mph plus speeds!

You go on a 4mm holiday and look what happens! A beautiful build James and impressed at the speed of construction and the thought that has gone into fitting the electrics. Lesson for me on a bit more planning before body building (plastic and not my feeble biceps).
It's posts like this that feed my garden railway bug so a big thanks.
