Thank you Steph , I'm using lolly sticks , the design was first made on a blueprint but during the build I went my own way .

thanks, I started on the roof and also started thinking about what paint to use, I might use the cool wood aging trick shown in the reference forum.

I'm also hunting for a cheap MEC-1 so I can build a meccano tram.

Great going so far Chris, instead of cutting a slot for axles, have you thought of using electrical wiring clips ( pic. below ) maybe from a friendly electrician, and if you can remove the wood from between the two you can lessen the friction on the axle. Just a thought.

Chris another way to do it along the lines you were thinking is to have the axle inside a tube, with the wheels glued to the axle with loctite, the tube if the fit is a loose one acts as a bearing and this can be glued into a slot, leaving the axle to rotate easily.

Next week I will be picking up my newest acquisition, a live steam Hornby G100 The Rocket. It's a gas fired 3.5" model

Nice, I have always fancied one of them. They are getting a little long in the tooth now but spares crop up on ebay from time to time. I think the gas tank can be a concern on them so it might be worth checking it all over carefully. A google search on this may prove useful.

I bought one when they first appeared and used it on its straight track up and down our long hallway with my eldest son at the other end. We soon got bored and it became a shelf queen for many years until I finally decided to sell it, complete with box and all accessories. It fetched peanuts at auction (wrong place and time I guess) but the gas valve had become a concern as it was loose in the body....... another area to watch!

The Hornby Rockets are beautiful but very temperamental! They only work when the mood takes them and then they will only really move themselves. The seals on the gas tank will be giving up the ghost now due to age so be careful.
Get one and enjoy it- just don't expect miracles!!
