Regner whistle not making a noise

Should the whistle that comes with the standard Regner whistle kit make a noise if you blow into it or run it off a foot pump?

Mine just makes a hissing noise even when it is connected up to the whistle valve and run off steam.

The whistle does not leak, I cannot work out what's wrong with it?!

Bit of grot stuck inside it perhaps?

I have just tested the only steam whistle I have to hand, a mamod one, it only whistles when you get to a certain pressure. Prior to that you get a passing air noise which changes in flatulent note until it whistles.
Probably not much use but it kept me amused for a few minutes. It also caused the next door cat, which has taken up residence in my shed to slink off after shooting me a really filthy look.

Thanks Jimbo, I just assumed testing it on air would clean it but after blasting it with carb cleaner all is well.

Molly use to blink quickly at me after applying flea treatment to her skin, I think it was to show her disgust!

I get the same when I have to de flea the wife.....

Nice simple fix then. Carb cleaner is good stuff but watch some varieties on paint (don't ask how I know this)
