Padarn Guard Van

It all started when I bought a slate wagon kit at last years LLanfair Show.




That made up I decided to see if I could scratch build a slate wagon and got carried away and ended up with three.





At Christmas I decided to increase my Fleet to a reasonable size train so I ordered two laser cut kits.






Now I had six wagons and thought that was it until I was browsing through a copy of Narrow Gauge World No 81 of 2012 and saw this






I thought I could build one of them and remembered that the 16mm assn video of 2014 had some footage taken by Ivo Peters of the railway in operation. So now I have this.






Unfortunately there is little detail in the photograph and video of the "Starboard side " of the van and I ran out of coffee stirrers.






I can tell from the video that there is a single handle on the side but detail of the lower part of the side are obscured by the adjacent wagon.
Can anyone point me to a drawing or photographs of the van?.

I've found 2 or 3 pictures, but all from a distance and all oblique shots showing no real detail.
The only thing I can say is that they appear to be completely plain boarded. That would make sense since on the transporter wagons, the slate wagons were arranged 4 up ( 2 side by side and two end to end). The guards van occupied the last space on the LH side, with a slate wagon alongside as the last on the RH side as far as I can see.

Thanks for that Phillip. I have Googled " Padarn Railway Brake Van" and most of the images that I can see are of the sides I have the detail of. There is one however that seems to support your suggestion. I think that I will go for a plain side with on handle.

Didnt consider that the vans had doors though!.

Looking good Graham.

I settled on the easier option of building the excellent Swift Sixteen kit which goes well with my skips & slate wagons.
