Interesting question. I know of a Husband and wife team local who build together. He does the rolling stock and she does the buildings. Her viaduct and building are the best I've seen period what a lady.

My other half runs her own locos and stock on our GR, some of which she has imported from the US. She also designs and builds all sorts of interesting electronic railway hobby related gizmos and like me is also a licensed Radio Amateur. Her professional soldering skills put my amateur efforts to shame. I bake all of the bread though so probably a fair division of labour

You mean drag her away probably kicking and screaming from her microphones or the workbench. Today we are going across to a (single guy) friend's GR open day and I have half the boot loaded with rolls, bacon, sausages, currant buns and three George Foremans (grills). Now that's the kind of hobby involvement that I personally applaud. Incidentally catering for those visitors who eat no meat products of any kind whatsoever can sometimes be very difficult indeed.

Must try to get her up on the forums though as I do take your point.

I wouldn't say my wife was exactly involved in the hobby but she does take an interest and has been known to build the odd kit.

My wife is not much interested in the hobby, but tends to perk up when things over the line side fence (or lack thereof) are discussed. Things like 1:22.5 scale sheep tend to appear at her instigation, and she seems to have a liking for supplying the IJ with people, as well as casting a critical eye over some of my projects.

Other than that - and as I like to remind her occasionally - a garden railway was her idea, not mine!

my soon to be wife doesn't build anything but likes all the things I make and takes photos etc of my line.she does sometimes moan its harder to put the washing out having to step over the railway etc.she does come to railway shows etc with me and enjoys looking at all the lines and models. I do have to put up with a far bit of micky taking from other family members for having a railway though

Our railway's are all my wife's fault! You'll never get her on the forum though. OK so we aren't running yet, but she's done a lot of the creative side, leaving me to the engineering and construction (she does get some mad ideas though). She's also arranging all the shipping out to Portugal. She's also very good at finding bargains.

Hello, everybody! I'm a housewife and a fan of garden railways. I've been reading almost everything here  for a long time. (Sorry for my delay with a reply, I've seen this topic just now.) Neither my husband nor my son-in-law still show no interest to my idea, but in spite of this I have my Ruza Oberland garden railway with a little help from somebody else. I have to say that the idea was to construct some kind of Berner Oberland near Moscow( I mean with mountains and  lakes)  for my grandkids' fun.  But honestly, now I'm not sure who is more interested in running - my grandkids or me. It's my number one hobby.
In internet I've met at least two ladies whose GR are breath-taking.

My wife is 100% in support of having the Crowfoot Light Railway and is always involved in discussions about changes and additions and loves having the railway in 'her' garden. Her one rule tends to be that the railway should complement the garden rather than take it over.
Apart froma couple of incompleted kits she has also bought all the locos we have and is a member of the 16mm Ass.
