Hi,

Filling in some time before we depart to West Wales for a few days I made a start on converting a child's Snoopy? toy to run run on the CMES GR. We use quite a few of these toys mostly like this one sourced in charity shops to entertain the public on the CMES open days. I am calling the toy Snoopy it didn't say anything on it so it is probably something else.

The toy as bought.




The toy was taken apart and the wagons were tackled first; their chassis were made from 25 mm square section steel tube with one of its sides removed. Steel was used to add weight to the otherwise very light wagons. Some Mamod wagon wheels were fitted to the chassis which were bolted to the plastic bodies. The couplings are modified Binnie Small Carmarthen: which are reasonably priced and work well.




A start has been made on the locomotive? The sound system and most of its inside was removed. As lack of weight wont be a problem B&Q 20 mm aluminium channel was used for the chassis. The channel has been drilled for motor, switch axles and securing holes which is the stage it is at now.



The locomotive will be 4WD using a spring belt to connect the axles as shown by 'Daisy'.




Daisy doing a stability test of the converted wagons and given their short wheel base they performed very well.



The locomotive chassis has been painted so come the New Year and a hour or so's work Snoopy if that is what it is called will be operational.

You got me there Tony. I ain't got one of those!!!!!

I don't think it's snoopy - I've got the feeling it's a Channel 5 kid's programme that I've accidentally caught just before 0915. Don't worry - the first time it goes out the kids will tell you!

Where do you get the bearings and the sprung belt from?


The bearings came from Brandbright who alas has ceased trading and the sprung belts are available from both Mamod and Wilesco.


Looks like a simplified version of a character called 'Pufferty', from a preschool animated series called 'Tickety Tock', (or something like that).

The CMES has many motorised children's toys mostly charity shop buys.





A twin axle hung motor unit fitted to the Circus Train.



A power wagon used to push toys that aren't easy to motorise.



We have a lot of Thomas the Tank toys that have been modified to run on '0' gauge track; a lot of other toys are used as wagon loads.

Hi,

Pufferty as the model is now known; is finished.

The motor and 4WD has been fitted to the chassis.



The battery holder and switch fitted.
