For those of you not at Llanfair this weekend (including myself), here's the new Roundhouse model they have let us dealers know they will be producing - Bulldog. They were originally planning two first batches however it has been put to one big one. Price is just under £600.



Bulldog is another freelance design typical of a powerful small yard shunter and, though
it shares the same chassis with Little John, it has a more purposeful look and features
extra detail and a working head lamp. This model has been designed and built to be
equal in performance to Roundhouse  steam models.

Technical specifications for ‘Bulldog’.
 Weight 1.4kg.
 Long running time.
 0-4-0 outside framed steel chassis.
 Dimensions: Length 179mm (over Coupling), Width 80mm, Height 139mm.
Fitted with a High-Powered Motor and tough Nylon Gear set.
Working head lamp..
 Full radio control - Stop, Start and Speed in both directions using our powerful and
highly reliable Roundhouse 'LocoGlyde' Electronic Speed Controller (ESC).
 Powered by 6 AA NiMh rechargeable batteries for excellent running time complete
with fast charger for in-situ charging.
 Gauge adjustable between 32mm and 45mm gauge.
 Insulated wheels fitted as standard.
 Buffer Beams - Choice of Plain Red or Yellow/Black Chevrons.
 Available in any standard ROUNDHOUSE colour.

A note for Andrew of the (WH)WR - You should have copyrighted your con-rod colour choice! Could have charged them royalties for the idea...

Yep, there's another get-rich-quick opportunity lost...

It's a nice-looking loco, love the cab window shape, and you're right, it looks good in yellow. As you might have noticed from my railway thread though, I'm very fond of my LJ, so I don't think I'll be trading it in for newer model...

I think RH are a little wide of the mark in their claims that these little locos are equal in performance to their steam engines. Mine really struggles to pull three (fairly heavy) bogie carriages up my curving 1-in-50 (I normally limit it to 2), whereas "Russell" storms up with no problem. I've no experience of 'em, but I expect the larger battery locos compare well, the extra weight must help. That's not really a criticism of the LJ I should add, it's a great loco and certainly does what you could realistically expect for something that size...

Pictures of the first model to actually make it to us, I would have had some sooner however the first two we had vanished when the couriers van was stolen whilst they were in shipment from the factory to us! So a special batch was run just for our replacements...







I do like my Little John yet I think that this is more detailed and I prefer industrial loco's...what to do eh? Sell LJ and buy on of these or keep calm and try not to buy another loco...

Why only have one?
