Re: eBay madness
I've noticed a lot of 'Used but not tested' in the descriptions these days which I think is a euphemism for the seller is a mechanical incompetent or a lazy dumbf**k.
This caught my eye recently which is probably rare but in my opinion a rare piece of junk, I thought maybe I could change the mickey mouse cylinders but decided that it was too far away from a scale 'Rheidol' that it wasn't worth it.

The other one is a strange loco, I thought it might be an Archangel Brick in disguise but it had a dome? and then again it may be just a copy using just a discarded boiler off a Sgt Murphy and because you couldn't restore it without throwing most of it away into a catalogue Archangel loco [ which one anyway] I didn't bid.

Re: eBay madness
The price of both of those locos you can buy working second hand live steamers from reliable manufacturers.

Re: eBay madness
Not sure why you think this one is bad Tom. There's over £100-worth of wheels, axleguards/bogies and couplings on these three vehicles, and once that is deducted then £30 each seems not far off a bargain to me.

Re: eBay madness
Apologies, I did not read through the advert correctly as I thought it was just for one wagon.
Thanks for the correction Tony.

Re: eBay madness
It does show.. 102 solid british pounds. I guess someone got carried away while bidding on the item. Lucky seller anyway, others would put it in the bin or the parts box..

Re: eBay madness
There was another Mamod loco recently on eBay that went for under £90 fully assembled although looked like it had been stored in a damp shed for years.
Re: eBay madness
I wouldn’t mind one of those Mamods, but it would need to be R/C, couldn’t keep up with it even running very slow……….

Re: eBay madness
Rod, I think you will find that slow running and Mamods are a contradiction of terms. At least in my experience they run so fast that they will derail at the first bend or they simply refuse to run at all. But then maybe I've just been unlucky.

Maybe Phil, but that’s the fun of it don’t you think..

I think ambitiously priced is the phrase here!

Re: eBay madness
If you think these are bad you should have a look at the recent/current auction of Fred Dibners workshop. People have been bidding £10-25 for a rust nut and bolt from his workshop, small spanner’s have been going for triple figures!! Don’t even start on the old shirts!!! It does go to show that some people will pay anything for anything! eBay is not the bargain basement place it was when it started out.

Do you think he/she put the decimal point in the wrong place….listerboy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 06, 2018 5:31 pm https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3137599569

The missis told him he had to get rid of his trains, because she thought it's childish. To keep his marriage sound, he told her he'ld try to sell it.

Could be a case of " I tried to sell them love....."
If at first you don't succeed, use a bigger hammer!
