I have never posted these altogether on this forum before so I thought I would put up some pictures of my modified Mamod loco's. You will soon pick up the fact I have some what of an obsession in modification of Mamods they make brilliant locomotives

Whats the collective noun for a load of mamods?

Is it a 'Conflagration'?

wow, very inspiring, any general tips or tricks that you used while modifying these locos?

Seen some of these before, and they really are attractive locos.
I think Rebecca is my favourite too!
Are Mamods really strong enough to drive six wheel chassis?
All round excellent Mamodifications and an inspiration to Mamod owners everywhere.

As for a load of Mamod's being a conflagration, well in my experience so long as they are gas fired then things are much safer I have had a few burn ups with meths fired ones though

Thanks Joe. As for general tips or tricks this would need a post on it's own. There are some fantastic articles and threads on line - including on these boards so the first thing would be to set a side an hour or two and research the Mamod board here on this forum and also over on the "Locomotives and Railways" section of the Unofficial Mamod and Other Steam Forum (UMAOSF). That forum was my inspiration for PJLW8 "UMAOSF".

Thank you Invicta. Yes I have posted about a number of these models on this forum. I mostly post over on the Unofficial Mamod and Other Steam Forum (UMAOSF). I don't tend to cross post so much any more. I thought it was a nice idea to put a thread up about the Mamod models I have in my collection as they still appear to have a strong following and are a superb entry into live steam in the garden and to modelling live steam loco's.

I have designed and made the 0-6-0 frames (and the 0-4-2 frames) myself and they are set up for installation of a gas burner. Hence these models also have upgrade boilers and cylinders. So to answer your question directly, I have not upgraded a 'standard' Mamod loco with 0-6-0 frames on their own. In fact many would argue that some of my models are not really Mamod's anymore as there is not much of the standard Mamod left to be found

The 0-6-0 models do run very well - in fact here are a few videos that demonstrate that. Most recently (September 2014) "RUTH ANN" and "IRENE" got a run out at the L&B gala:

"IRENE" was inspired by the Kerr, Stuart & Co Ltd No. 2451 ‘Axe’ which is the resident loco at the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway being jointly owned by all the members of the L&B Trust. She was the first of five Joffre Class locos in the UK to return to operational steam.

RE mamods able to drive 060s - yep. They are. Superbiker helped me design the frames for my own loco. It's run several hundred scale miles so I'd say the PJLW principles are pretty sound.

Cheers Douglas thanks for that. The 0-6-0's are great little runners for sure  8) I always look forward to reading about Swordbreaker on these boards - always accompanied with some great pictures too

Keeping an eye out Douglas - nothing through yet though

I was going to put up a new post with some more models on it but have decided to extend this post instead - hence the post title edit to [the first 10 and counting!].

Here is another one of my red Mamod loco's - this time though it has a drop on piece of bodywork to mimic the saddle tank style.

I have been working on this "MSSification" since January 2015. Here is a fully upgraded and gas fired MSS Saddle Tank with the PJLW 0-6-0 upgrade. All the rolling stock is fully refurbished with the carriage bodies colour matched to the loco.














In order to make it easier to fill the boiler the saddle piece is modified so it can be lifted on and off:



The loco runs very well - as you might expect with all those upgrades
