brake standard

Slightly silly question.
I am sorting out the cab layout on my Jessie build.
Would a diesel loco with air or vacuum brakes have a brake standard or any kind of screw on brakes?

Yes. A screw on parking brake is normal.

Ooooh! Ouch!!! Most modern DMU/EMU rely solely on the electro pneumatic brake to stay where it is, no handbrake supplied!
Pippindoo, ex (retired) Train Driver/Instructor/Assessor, B.R., various franchises, and now West Coast Railway Company, whose heritage locos DO have a handbrake. Just saying.... Thank you!

Should have said, the engine is meant to be decidedly old fashioned (1950's)

Virtually any locomotive or motive power built until the 1980's in the UK had a form of handbrake.
Usually a wheel that operated a screw thread.
The handbrake would operate the loco brakes and could be used if the loco was parked or the loco (power) brakes failed.
One was independent of the other but not the other way around. In other words, the handbrake could be applied on top of the power brake, but the handbrake would need to be released before the brakes would come off.
The power brake could be applied on top of the handbrake, but the hand brake would need to be released before the brakes would come off.
The power brake was a fixed linkage but the handbrake could work over the top of the fixed linkage.
The handbrake always remained independent of the power brake but operated the same linkage.
Short of the linkage failing the handbrake would at least always work...
I have had a few occasions when, due to stupidity (not mine I add!) the loco brakes did not work... However, swift action on the handbrake saved the day!

Thanks for the replies. A brake standard will be fitted as long as I can find room in the cab!

I picked up a couple of the inexpensive Cambrian Models NA32 Loco Brake Standard's, and one of those is pencilled in for fitting to my IP Jessie when time permits.

I have fitted one, but in a slightly odd place in the cab of my Jessie. (see my post in the loco section)
I know they are cheap and cheerful, but the quality of the moulding was atrocious, with blow holes all over it.
