Just wondering if anyone can tell me the going rate of a secondhand Cheddar Models Iver tender? I rather fancy a tender to match my Iver and am debating whether to bother making one or just to wait out for a secondhand one.

I do not recall seeing an Iver tender come up on its own on eBay (only with the loco), although I've not been searching eBay a lot over the last 2 years or so.

Iver's tend to go for about 3/4 - 7/8 of the original RRP so if you have a price list for the tender (not available in the Wayback Machine archive pages) that may give you a rough idea of potential cost 2nd hand.

Thanks Chris - if I recall they were around the £80-£90 mark so I should be looking at around the £60 mark. I'll keep my eye out for one.

Just a thought, if you can't get a Cheddar Models tender could you adapt a MSS/Mamod tender? I think they go for about £45.

If you decide to make a tender, make it nice and heavy! If anybody remembers the Ivors of old will know why!

I would like to get a suitable tender for a Cheddar Iver too. What would you recommend?
I believe Mamod tenders are too small/narrow for an Iver loco. What else could be suitable?

Just a thought - but at the risk of causing him a major issue why don't you work out the basic dimensions and style you want and contact David at HGLW. I'm sure he could laser cut something albeit in mdf but if the overall look is right it should be ok...

The Iver tender is essentially just a big box.


The above photo shows the tender with the top plate unscrewed. Not very practical for filling with a dummy coal load. Overall length 205mm, width 115mm, height 110mm, weight 1.1kgs.



The MSS tender. Overall length 162mm, width 82mm, height 92mm, weight 0.4kgs.



The Mamod tender. Overall length 135mm, width 80 mm, height 85mm, weight 0.35kgs.

Thanks a lot for the photos. They are very useful.
It looks like the MSS tender could match the loco quite well. Now I have to check if it's available unlettered in black.

By the way, which is the official MSS website?

Not a major issue :)

I'm happy to quote for any one offs
(Although three offs work out more cost efficient).

Dream Steam have limited stocks of the MSS tender in kit form for about £43.

The MSS website is http://www.steammodels.com/

The tender will come with lining & MSS transfers applied. These can be removed with careful application of rubbing compound.

The other problem you will have is the MSS couplings are not very compatible with anything else so you will probably have to fit alternative couplings. MSS tenders do appear on eBay, although never go cheap.

MSS rolling stock is easily modified to couple to standard 16 mm rolling stock. Dream Steam also supply a buffer beam fitted with a standard buffer/coupler to fit MSS stock with minimum modification.
