Leaves on the line at Afallen

Post by laalratty » Fri Nov 07, 2008 10:32 pm

Services temporerily suspended on the Afonglas and Nant Llywyd railway due to large number of overscale leaves on the line at Afallen station
Image
Just have a look at this lot, looks like i'll have to do some serious leaf clearance, we have got a leaf blower but it tends to pick up ballast
Image
And to compound things, the oak tree responsable for this deluge is still knowhere being near finished with dropping its leaves luckily it does seem to only be Afallen station badly affected. Anyone else have trouble with leaves? (totally different problem to the full size of course)
"What the hell is that?"

"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Yes, before your visit I brushed the railway down and when we were at the Joys of Life last Friday the leaves were everywhere we spent ages clearing them, they'd also caused drainage troubles  .

Have you tried your leaf blower from a distance, so it just about picks up the leaves and not the ballast?

I dont get a problem myself as none overhang the railway.

At the Joys of Life we do, but it only works when the leaves are dry.

We have a lot of trouble with leaves on the MVR as there are a number of trees tht overhang our line. I usually use a broom to sweep them off, though unfortunately this usually takes a little ballast with it as well

I'd say it's definatley "Afallen" given that 'Afal' is Apple, not 'Allfal'.

Just had a thought. If you put an island in your pond could I call it Avalon?

Sadly Laalratty refuses to let me put an island in. However, I have overcome that problem by the fact that the island is invisible. :D :D :D

Wow, now riveresk has managed to send it off topic on a Merlin/King Arthur theme!
Anyway, didn't have to get the leaf blower out to run trains today, the wind blew most of what you can see in the pics away ad off the line

Or you could say that owing to the tides it is submerged for most of the day ;)

OR

Thanks to global warming the rising sea levels has submerged it 8)

You'd better hope that the wind doesn't blow the leaves back again. Are there many left to fall from the trees still?

Warning, off-topicness ahead.
Merlin is taking the palce of Dr Who on Saturday nights. I'm just reflecting that, it's also not my fault that the Welsh for Avalon means Isle of Apples, ;) Just making the obvious connections.

Not too many left to fall luckily. Anyway photo conditions were rather nice yesterday lunch time, here are the results from the running session I had
Image
Gwydion emerges from the tunnel, this area is virtually finished after the major rebuilding works
Image
Gwydion on the headland with the miday mixed from Nant Llywyd
Image
I like this one, the steam from the safety valve and funnel is nicely backlit by the sun
Image
And finally, a much less leafy Afallen, no sign of any hidden islands in the pond though, only several leaves!
