After a lull of nearly 10 years Roundhouse are re-introducing their tram locomotive Stanley in a limited run of 100, like the Jacks a few years back. These little things look lovely, hoping for one myself!!

To quote the Roundhouse website:

Small alterations are being made to bring the design up to date and streamline production but visually, Stanley will be as originally designed.

First live steam loco I ever bought, back in 1995 I think.

Led me down the slippery slope of live steam and one thing led to another.

I think if I ever got a hold of a Stanley to do up for someone, I would probably adds some cab lights, its very dark but certainly much room for improvement.
Looking forward to seeing them in the metal!

Good point. Replacing the non-functioning lamps at the front with LED versions might be a start with my one.

Hmm yeh, I was more thinking of in cab lighting as it looks very dark for the crew.

Yes, I´ve just had the access roof off to have a look myself. Now I´ve ripped out the R/C there´s some space for fun and games. I think I might give it a go with dollhouse lighting for a change. You can get wall / ceiling mounted lights (which might just be plausible) that have their own batteries in the base. Much quicker ... as well. BTW - one of the dark secrets of the Stanley tram is that in order to change the batteries for the R/C you had to take the body off .... ok, if you hadn´t dropped/crashed the beast, but hell if things were little skew-wift.

Considering it's basically a "Billy", I think one of you should try to fit a Riverdale boiler and make a coal-fired "Stanley". Firing it would be a nightmare, but it would be unique!

Keith, I am not putting my name down for one but would love to mod one. I think with a few adaptions and some rear doors as prototype, it would be a near straight swap! Maybe a few fittings to turn but thats it!

I knew that someone would do it ... "Een kolengestookte Tramloc voor 45mm spoor" to be precise. Ok, it´s not a Roundhouse Stanley but the idea is there ....

PFLR no.4 is on order!

I appear to be able to obtain one of these as my father has got three allocated for October/November and we are most certainly going to keep one back as a demo model (although it will used a lot more than that...

) and sell the other two. Looking forward to October now!

Been having a look at what works for me .... (I know, I should have tried it on the Stanley tram, but I couldn´t resist ...)

just ordered one for myself as a chrsitmas present for myself...I will put rechargable batteries in the rc kit and add a charging point so no need to remove the roof to change batterys....

they still got a few left when i asked yesterday
and delivery i was told is early 2015

Then take a look at the mess on the left hand side of this. None of the buildings are wired up for lighting, yet. The drainpipes are missing and the guttering, which explain the gaps between roofs and walls. There´s a Victoria seaside pavillion looking for somewhere to go and diverse bits of rubbish lying around. You never see it until you take a happy snap ....

I decided to order one in brown, it should contrast nicely with the white roof.

I'm in the second batch due for delivery in the first quarter of next year. Guess that shows how popular they are if the first batch has already sold out!
