Hello Live steamers,

I am scratchbuilding a “Dacre”-like 0-6-0 live steam loco. This week I finished the displacement lubricator and the steam tee, so now she can run on steam! I made a video of the first test in the kitchen (my wife was out ;) ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgUZiVb6iJw . At the end of the clip you can see (hear) the pop-valve releasing.

Love the valve gear........

When I build my Matheran 0-6-0 the valve gear needs to be operated in this way.

Excellent keep going!

Cheers

Very nice!

Keith, I will be interested to watch the build of a Matheran. Will it have radial axles? Perhaps even a meths fired pot boiler?

Wow, a nice looking little bestie. Any more pictures or information on the build?

The Matheran is one for the future as I'm presently building "Midget". A little 0-4-0 built for the construction of the Avontuur line.

This is how far the model has advanced since I started building it @ Christmas

It usually takes me a year to build a loco as my spare time is a bit limited. So The Matheran is a way off yet.

In answer to the question about the Klein Linder axles, I intend to make the centre axle slide in the horizontal on a sleeve, but the two outer ones will be fixed. The loco will be meths fired.

Cheers

Hello Steamers,

Here is an update about my live steamer. I finished the smokebox and I made a water gauge.

Yesterday I tested the loco on track for the first time:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLR1kUpPw5g

That brilliant hope mine comes out half that good. I notice you built you own gas tank. If you dont mind asking, how?

Hello Maple,

This is how I made the gas tank:
First I cut a piece of brass tube and I faced the ends in the Lathe. Then I turned a brass disc with a stub protruding for a MF6 screw thread. This is for the bottom cover. The top was also turned, drilled and tapped (MF4,5 if I remember right) fot the Ronson valve . A side hole was drilled for the gas valve. The gas valve was silver soldered to the top cover, and the top and bottom pieces were silver sodred to the tube. For a gas tank it is absolutely neccessary, for safety reasons,  to do a pressure test, like a pressure test on a steam boiler.
I hope you can understand my description, as my English is rather poor.
You can find a description in Brian Wilsons (fantastic!) book "Steam trains in your garden"

Hello live steamers,
As I intend to make my loco radio controlled, I yesterday made a try for the steam regulator valve servo. I clamped the servo on the frame and I improvised some r/c gear with bits and pieces found in my scrap box. The regulator valve has to make at least a quarter turn for full steam.
The test was succesful, so I now can think of a more permanent mounting of the r/c gear.

Hi Erik

That is great thank you. I just need to find some pressure testing equipment. And do not worry about your English, it seems better than mine, and i'm English! :D

Cheers

Hello live steamers,

Last month I installed sevo's for the valve gear and for the regulator. I also added a pressure gauge. I did a test run in the garden. You can see the result on my youtube film (I know I am not Fellini)
