What other hobbies

Post by Catweasel » Sun Jan 12, 2014 12:58 am

As the title says. What other hobbies do folks indulge in? Myself,I'm building a 4 mm scale Dcc railway and also a 1/10 scale electric monster truck. Another rc car I have is a 1/10 scale short course truck. A bit of a beast,it's good for about 60 mph.

I do a lot of large scale railways from 7.25inch up to 15inch. Mainly 9.5inch but I also do some 5inch. I also do photography and film making as much as I can.

5" railways (obviously being 5inchrail - shameless plug !) and an interest in all miniature stuff from 5" upwards. Particularly like the TMNR stuff for some reason.... and latterly miniature traction engines having had a life-long love of the full sized. Particularly like steam wagons and have a project in mind for something rather large(ish) along these lines....

5 inch gauge and upwards. Volunteering on my local standard gauge light railway. I play the piano (and recently harmonium) and sing comedy songs. I also enjoy doing the lighting for productions at Magdalene and am fascinated by mechanical music.

Twice maybe three times a year I go back to Rhyl to play with 15" gauge locos... Mostly my favourite of the fleet, Cagney No.44, or one of the two working Barnes Atlantics there. I've been volunteering there since I were 13... I'm now 22.

I am currently a Yellow Belt in Ju Jitsu and I hope to Grade to a Orange belt in February.

I also enjoy Snowboarding... I've been to Tignes, Alpe De Heuz, Les Deux Alpes and Pas de le Casa all of which were great fun.
No one expects the SPANISH ACQUISITION!!!

Classic cars are my lifelong passion.

The Austin Healey has been with me for 40 years (longer than the wife !). Bought for the vast sum of £425 in 1974. Completely rebuilt by me, it took us to the Le Mans Classic and touring northern France four years ago.

The E-type was only acquired last June in the face of some stiff opposition from the domestic authorities. Eventually swung it on the grounds that it's a better investment for my pension money than leaving it in the bank. I hope that proves correct ! Hopefully taking us to the Classic this year.

Have also been a biker but decided I had to reduce my number of toys so sold the Triumph Thunderbird last year.

Well, well, well. Aren't we an interesting bunch!

In my case I volunteer on the Great Central and Bluebell railways. I collect Hornby Dublo 2 rail too but that is on the wane in the interests of financing the garden railway!

Away from things railway I run two allotments (although one of them is on the lineside at the GC!) and I love walking, although don't do anywhere as near as much as I'd like to. I just love being out there in the countryside, short of people nature is the greatest free show on earth! ;)
