Ah yes you have a point Si about when they work!!

Pete, One thing about listers is that they are instant fun and very sought after despite being naff! Not all deseil locos are interesting IMHA things like modern deseils or any standard gauge deseil dont interest me nor do things where the engine workings is hidden under a sheet of metal and you cant hear it.

Im not saing deseil is better simply that listers are more instant fun!

Fin!

I like them equally, both totally different in terms of what they look and run like and are therefore uncomparable, as are Mamods and Accuraft.

We get some quite good black smoke out of my mate's Lister when we rev it up.

you want charater from an internal combustion engine, you should see Quarryman at Ravenglass, the noise is fantastic, and you almost break your wrists starting it, although its not too bad for smoke
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

In 1970/1971I used to work as a dj on tuesday nights in the pub that was next door to the Lister factory, can't remember the name :-( I don't know if it exists today.
(apologies for going off topic, but any mention of places I know from my murky past sets me off...sorry :D )
