Whilst trying to avoid the heat and the huge crowds around the A4s I decided to talk a walk around the 'Warehouse' in the NRM.

The lighting is not great in there but walking down a dark row between the various racks of shelves I spotted the following: -



The box lid had RS1 on the side but the contents would make it an RS1A set - it is missing the coupling ring hook



I did not have a torch handy so could not see which vintage this SL1K is (certainly not the first batch which I understand came with loose wheels)



I wonder if they have removed the corrosive solid fuel from the boxes?

They most likely haven't. The store is one of the most saddest things in the railway world, such lovely models are in there stacked up on shelves.

I'll enquire. (I have in my garage two Mamods and a whole pile of other 16mm stuff belonging to the Senior Curator, Rail Vehicle Collections, who was my best man.)

The very same; we were around the TR, and students in Aberystwyth, at much the same time.

Small world... I've met him a few times at 15" gauge events... even bought a book or two from him...

I too have a friend and ex museum colleague who now works at the NRM. I have seen the stored collection there and, like any other Museum in the land, they are limited by space, finances, and just the ability to show items to their best advantage within the story they are telling at any given time.
If you were able to display everything you have all of the time, why would you bother to think of an exhibition theme to cover any particular part of history?
Some items are gifted to Museums and, to some, have limited appeal....should they be on show at all times?
