Barley pit narrow gauge line

Post by LnBmad » Sat Jun 01, 2013 1:39 pm

As a new member to the forum I thought I'd show you all the barley pit line. This line is a work in progress and runs both my locos and my dads.

Plans include extending down to the bottom of the garden, lowering the overall height of the track and getting flower beds planted.

Anyway, here's the video/ photos of the line as it stands. Currently running a freelance loco (the fox) made using roundhouse parts in 1992 build by my dad and rebuilt by me in October 2012. The carriages are freelance again, based loosely on the ashby summer carriages owned by the Ffestiniog railway.

Please click on first image to see the video.

Welcome to the forum.

You have the makings of a great little line there.

Very similar to what I am building (check my signature for the link).

Great minds think alike ;)

Cheers,

Tom

Is it a lady Anne? I know dad hand made the bodywork. It may well be on a lady Anne chassis... Runs sweet though

dome will be refitted tomorrow once I can get back in the workshop to drill the holes on the boiler strapping to fit it to

As requested, here are some photos of diesel loco 'number 1' also known as budgie (named when my dad built it for me 20 years ago, I was 5). It's a scratch built battery powered loco run using a simple forward off reverse switch.

And here's a closer photo of 'the fox'

Thanks Sam. I'm looking forward to my dad getting 'dorathea' back to run on my line... I will also be getting his 'lilla'.

This is a photo of dorathea when he won the masters trophy at 16mmngm a few years ago.

That's a little beauty! A worthy prize winner if ever I saw one.

I really like Budgie, I've just designed and built a medium size diesel outline loco and have started on a smaller version and I've been wondering how to do the cab, you've solved the problem for me. Don't have one :)

I find that when I'm unsure on how to model any form of engineering I think about how it would be used and how it would be made in reality. Then it gives me an idea of how to make it in 16mm

He also has a 16mm line, and regularly runs a 16mm Linda. Am uploading a video filmed yesterday of Linda.

We have also built a 5" gauge quarry Hunslet named holyfire, and he is currently drawing and building a 5" gauge linda

The fox now has the dome refitted. Just need to paint the boiler band black.
If it can be made full scale it can be made 16mm

Got chance to do a little more work on the line today. First 2 sets of left hand points fitted with a view to adding 2 sets f right hand when I next extend the track to create a passing loop on the main straight. Points were handmade but will be buying peco from now on as time is lacking again.

I'll give it a go again Tom, got very confused as to how to set out 2.5' radius curves.
