Did the rod try to twist more at the bottom or did it twist evenly? I have heard some people have struggled to get a consistent twist.

No problem with any of the six I twisted, possibly because of the limited length? It is true that the twists appear to be tighter at the turning end initially but that sorts itself out equally before long. If you watch closely it seems to tell you when to stop, which is useful having never done it before!

More progress starting with this.... I'm not thinking of changing scales but yesterday I visited the VoR and saw this....
Can you see the similarity too?
By removing the plastic centres and filling with epoxy resin, a little paint application makes these..... Other finishing touches carried out and pictures will be posted tomorrow.

The loco is all-but finished with just a nameplate to add to the tank sides, a name has yet to be decided and I am on the hunt for something cheap and cheerful!
I think there is a manufacturer who has a range of stock names available, but I can't find them..... any ideas please?

SWMBO has a 'thing' about the colour purple and she has said before that I should build a purple loco. I am going to be in so much bother when she sees this magnificent creation of yours!

How have you managed to paint it though mate. It's to flipping cold and damp in my garage for any painting and Anne would have a blast at me if I did any rattle can in the house.......

Hi Rod, it is always damp and often cold here in West Wales so we have made the workshop as user-friendly as possible with insulation and multi-fuel central heating.
My elder son is a plumber, perhaps that has something to do with it?

I like to see colourful locos, especially those of non-standard design. Let yourself free with your colour palette, you will surely gain points in her view!

Top notch finish, Peter. That 3D printed driver looks so natural. A great addition to the fleet. I would love to see that motion in action. Looks like I'm talking myself into another visit.

It would be wonderful to meet up again Rik, you would be most welcome. I have a special reason to get the railway looking at its best as soon as the weather improves and a perfect opportunity to record the line in action with all of the recent stock builds.
The 3D figures are the best available IMHO and so reasonably priced too. I have just placed an order for more and the range is increasing constantly.

Not content with just one vertical boilered loco I set about building, or rather re-building, a second. This one is a previous construction from some years ago when I made it to go with my Emett stock. It wasn't a pure Emett, just 'in the style of', and although it looked OK and ran well, being battery powered and manually controlled in forward and reverse via a speed controller operated by twisting the chimney cap, I was never totally happy with it for some reason.
This is how it looked before..... Unfortunately I can't find a picture of it complete with driver figure which stood about six inches tall to match my other Emett stock.
I decided the figure should go and the bodywork reduced in height, so another candidate for a trip to the bandsaw..... With the top of the bunker (still containing the coal) re-attached it went to the paint-shop..... The chimney still looked too tall, particularly when placed side by side with the other vertical boiler, so another surgical procedure too place and the top replaced about 2cm lower..... After all this I discovered I hadn't still got any of the original yellow spray paint so I had to mix acrylics until it looked a match, followed by lining with a felt tip marker, as I had also run out of lining tape!.....
You might not think there is much difference but I can assure you they sit better together now..... With the addition of a driver (on order) and new RC Trains receiver (waiting for stock) all will be well.
