Thanks guys, I really appreciate your response. Rik.... I have run it inside through the points and a slight incline but only a few yards outside due to the general devastation which has put weeds and debris on the track. However, I think enough to show how well it runs.

Lovely job, Peter..

I am 'supposed' to have built something for the National Show, on Saturday..
Spent a little on paint and glue, this weekend..

I am now at the usual 'fear of starting / failing' part..

I need a week of 36 hour days, this week.

I don't envy your timescale Phil. Sometimes I can work quickly when everything falls into place, however, waiting for paint to dry can upset even the best laid plans.

Lovely. I’m tempted to retrofit agreeably weathered tread plate to everything.

Having completed my last loco kit (shown above) I am waiting for inspiration to strike for the next project. I doubt it will take long but in the meantime I have been rearranging my stock storage and an idea came to mind. Firstly, I went through a charging programme of my entire battery powered loco stock, none of which have been recently used, other than testing after construction, so some have been hidden in boxes for months (or longer!)
For those who have been following my thread here is a test question.... how many battery powered locomotives do you think I have? Sorry but no prizes will be given.
So, back to the 'idea' which is to list my collection in some form of categories with notes to explain (as best as I can remember) their age, construction material and source (if kit built).
To begin I have put together my 'Early railways stock'.....

This set comprises a kit bashed locomotive based on the Minicraft plastic kit dating from 1970's-80's (?) of Stephenson's Rocket. The rocker motion is brass rod which rises and falls with rotation of the wheels. It is driven by a Lima '0' gauge motor bogie in the tender. I named her 'Anorexia' as she is a slimmed down version of 'Agenoria'. Built before 1990 I used it extensively on our group exhibition layout.
The three passenger coaches are from kits which were cut for me by Jerry Irwin....
The first (blue) is of the Open 3rd, the next two are typical L&M coaches, all from laser-cut MDF. I asked for each to be only two compartment to reduce the weight. Constructed about four years ago.
The final wagon is the TPO, scratchbuilt from Plastikard and again from the 1980's exhibition period.

Next... Hearse coaches....

The one on the left is a Timpdon kit with brass finials. A nicely detailed kit from 2021. The other is my scratch-built, Plastikard model from about 1980's. The interior has a polished wooden coffin, standing vicar figure and two seated female mourners. Floral tributes are on the roof.

Sounds like a great plan to me, Peter, I'm going to enjoy spotting your trains!

And I'm guessing that you have 38 battery locos...

I've seen the stack(s) of boxes but couldn't begin to hazard a guess at how many there are!

I find the glimpse of the beam engines! Behind the hearse-coach, intriguing.. :geek

Every time I see some pics from Peter my jaw drops and I start wondering why I even bother trying to model anything. I'll never get anywhere near that standard.
Fantastic work.

Phil, the exhibition layout (B.U.R.P.S.) which travelled extensively during the 1980's and 90's was built to represent a heritage railway restoration/museum collection to add interest, therefore gave an opportunity to include all kinds of lineside items. One such is the beam engine which I scratch-built to give constant movement in the background. It is Plastikard and timber construction driven by an electric motor with speed control.
In an exhibition environment it was fine, but in my shed very noisy, so now doesn't operate....

The motor casing is scratch-built by a well known maker....

The second (smaller) beam engine is the 'Aircraft' plastic kit, which also can be motorised, but this one isn't.

Peter, your reportoire never ceases to amaze me.

If I had half your ability, I would be happy.

Thank you for the extra information.

I think you mean "Airfix" Peter. They're unfortunately no longer produced, but I managed to track down a kit and 'converted' it into a horizontal steam engine for my sawmill.

I'd imagine you must have a portal to another dimension hidden away somewhere. No idea how you manage to fit such a vast collection in that shed with the indoor section of your line.

'Airfix' Rik, that's the one! The number of Airfix kits I constructed in my youth should have kept them in business up to the present!
I now recall the wonderful job you made of your own conversion, thanks for the reminder.

That is so kind Greg, but don't underestimate your modelling skills. I have long been impressed with your work and appreciate the thought and engineering ability you show to make your railway work in demanding circumstances, both indoor and out! We all do things in our own way, and no two are the same.
