SAR NG-ST Timber Wagons
Just started two of these in 5" gauge to give the Lawley something to do !
They end up as 5ft long by 13 inches wide.
10m of 2" x 1" steel channel, plus 20m of 1" x 1/2 aluminium channel.
250 x 3/32" rivets, 100 x 3/16 rivets & 40 x M4 bolts.

I have a plan ! All the side posts (as per the original) are readily removable. The two ends will also be removable, and the two bogies will just have posts to engage in the chassis.
The wagon bases will have two mild steel strips down their length -- conveniently 5" apart, which will serve as the base for the tender in the car. SO it will all fit in the car !!
Should be interesting when done.
Now, the one thing to watch in these larger scales, when you have a 5' long steel wagon, if you have a derailment or run-away, it can get interesting to dangerous.
A friend of a (now late) friend owns this line. During one visit he commented on a run-away flatcar that when it did derail, actually damaged some small trees...and would have hurt anyone near by.

It is VERY impressive in person, and that was riding it behind the "diesel" (actually a John Deere 318 hydrostatic tractor in drag).Pretoria:76242 wrote:Now that's what I call a Garden Railway !Spule 4:76229 wrote:http://www.srclry.com/
