Have you tried cutting the straws in half, long ways, or is it too fiddly?

For gutters, you would've needed Macdonalds straws..............

Could always use some tin - cut into strips and then rolled around some dowling (or whatever you have of the diameter that you want). I'm a great fan of tin as it's easier and cheaper to get hold of than brass and just as easy to work (well, at least for the stuff that I do with it).
