The Development of the WLR
The Development of the WLR
The wood to start on the first stage of the WLR was received today. This wood is to build the shed which contains the storage sidings (engine sheds etc) and main industry (as yet undecided) of the WLR. There may also be a small terminus if there is space.
The shed is 16' by 12' so i have quite a large space to work in. The railway will be mainly double track and have a return loop at the opposite end of the line to the shed.
The frame for the shed (windows, doors etc) should be completed by the end of next week (as am rather busy this week). The roofing material is on order so that will take a bit longer.
Now who said i'll never build this railway I will...it will just take a bit of time

Progress
Here is the shed so far...very difficult to photograph as no roof is fitted yet so a tarpaulin goes over the front. When finished the shed will be full double glazed and have electricity for heating and lights
Side
Front
Inside space (around 16'X12')
Stage 1 will exit here...
...run down here....
...and onto an inclined plane leading to the harbour! (A nicer fence will be erected...its just to make it baby proof quickly!)

Ahh - nice to have a garden railway that runs straight into a bench in the shed. Makes packing away after a run much simpler, especially with longer trains! Plus you can pack the matches and oily rags and syringes in the open wagons and then just shunt them onto a siding in the shed! Great stuff!

The line will carry on around the shed and out of the far wall, along the route of the old railway line my grandads garden is built on and then down the other half of the garden and down the side of the house...a lot of track
That is phase 2 though
I hope construction will start on the railway proper in around a fortnights time. A mate from school who started a garden railway ages ago is getting me some scaffolding poles from his dads company to hold up the raised sections of the railway.
Then I need to get wood to lay the track on... what do you recomend?

Almost 5 years since my last updated on this thread - some real progress has been made on my railway!
The shed had been full to the rafters with rubbish ready for going to the car-boot sale. A large amount of this has been sorted and given to the charity shop, the rest tipped at last allowing me to begin construction of the railway!
The section inside the shed will comprise of an oval of track with sidings for the storage of locomotives and carriages. I intend that this section will be a scenic section built like a traditional model railway...eventually!
