Top of the rails: No problem. After driving over the tracks a few times the ice is gone.St.Michael:78011 wrote:Do you have any problem with ice freezing on the top of the rail and blocking the points aswell? What kind of gass do you use in winter driving?
Points: Must check and clean guard rails and point rails before driving - but not a big problem.
Gas: I use pure butane. Engine and gas stored inside. I'm using hot water and have steamup outside.
Actually no problems with the engine, but the the rolling stock where having some icelumps on their wheeels.
Maybe it si a good idea to put the wagons outside in the cold to acheive the same temperature as the rails,
before the driving-session.

Here is a video from the Pine Hill Railway at Christmas-Day.
My RH Billy "ALF" in front of a rake of freightwaggons.
Enjoy it ...

A new engine will soon arrive at the PHRy. A RH Silver Lady with red lining.
Here are some pics of her.
I can hardly wait to take a closer look.

Thanks for the greetings!
The Silver Lady will have some more details; chopper-couplings, change some cheese-head screws to hex-head bolts, real coal-lumps in the coal-bins, a chuffer, and of course nameplates.
In some way I think of this engine as a female - there are more things on the engine to handle at same time and she is a beauty.
Her brother is a RH Billy called "ALF". Maybe the "Lady" should have a nordic name of a kind? What do members of the forum suggest?
The temperature was about 10 degrees below freezing. I did not actually have any problems with the gas flow or burner.

A name for my Silver Lady ... Suggestions so far:
ALVA - old Norse origin
FRØYA - old Norse origin / goddess
NORDSJÖLD - Canadian origin
FRIGG - old Norse origin / goddess
VICTORIA - latin origin
VIKTORIA - latin origin with nordic letters
The "nordic" letters ÆØÖÅ are a little peculiar for most members of this forum, but not actually a problem when ordering the MDC-nameplates.

I have discovered that I spelled the word "Nordskjold" wrong... there is a letter "k", as you can see.... otherwise I have also discovered that it is just some person's surname, it doesn't mean anything. A related name is "Nordenskjold", which is also some person's name. So although I think it would make a good name for a locomotive, it doesn't mean anything in particular other than being the name of a small Island in Canada, as well as an Archipelago in Russia.
I think out of the suggestions so far, I like "Alva", it goes well with the other locomotive's name.

Hello
Some times I'm looking for a model which gives me a historical recognition.
The picture below was taken in 1920 showing an old 2 ft NG line from my hometown. The 0-2-0 engine - an O&K and the hoppers
was carrying gravel and sand to a silo. Standard-gauge wagons was then filled with sand from the silo. The NG line was in
operation from 1905 untill 1950 when a fire destroyed the sand silo.
The next picture is how the scene looks like today.
The wagons are LGB converted to 32mm gauge, and the LGB-couplings are replaced with RH-couplings.
