A 5" gauge layout
Hello there.
Well, to start off with when my family moved into the house we are currently in, there just happened to be a 5" gauge set up in the garden. However, most of this seemed un-finished and overgrown (In places there was brambles up to your head, bearing in mind I was just a child. ) So, once we had settled down, we got going with clearing the line, we did so and then my parents continued on to buy a Maxitrak Ruston and a passenger wagon.
The fun starts here.
The station building that was in place, was starting to fall apart, with fungi growing on the roof and walls, so one summers day, a friend and me, suggested to my dad, that we demolish it, and build one from scratch. So we demolished it, and built it back(Eventually, It seems that demolishing things is funner than building them back sometimes.)
So we were satisfied with the layout, and the garden for a bit.... Until... We decided to finish off the tunnel that the previous owner was building... and then, around this tunnel landscape the garden.
Picture time... Yay. (Haven't got any pictures of the station build, mainly the tunnel.)
The station.
The beginning of the building work.
Both walls built,
Looking along the "straight" in the tunnel
Some pointwork for a extension(One day perhaps..)
I'll stop at that for now, Plenty more to come though.
Please ask any questions.
Stew.

It wasn't as such "abandoned" it just got left behind, as you can see most of the track is concreted in so I don't the previous owner was too bothered about taking it up. And perhaps it was a reason to boost up the price of the house.pauly:62039 wrote:This was abandoned in the garden of the home you moved in?
Bloody ell how bigs your garden and was that track already in place?
And as I get onto the more recent pictures you'll be able to see just how big it is. We've recently built a new garage which has made the whole place look giant.
And as for having all the luck. I think we were quite lucky that the guy that lived here before did have enough money to lay the track, just a shame he didn't have enough money to go all the way with the extension.
Basically, all the track was there, but no loco's/rolling stock. And in my opinion if the 5" gauge track wasn't there, it wouldn't have been long for me and my dad to perhaps start building a OO gauge garden railway.

Hi Cass ( )
What luck ! Serious envy going on here in Staffordshire. Keep the photos coming so that I can dream (senior management has already decreed "No!" so I must remain content with Club tracks).
I had a friend (sadly died earlier this year) with a sort-of similar station !
But no tunnel. Continuing on the current Health & Safety theme that seems currently to be taking over this Forum -- have you built a parallel escape tunnel (with cross-passages) in case you need to evacuate the main tunnel in the event if fire, flood or derailment ?
