i painted edrigs beams red, but when its in steam, the paint seems to go a bit taky, not very much, but it you were to scratch it, it would leave a mark.
any idea why and how it can be cured

What type of paint did you use? If it was aerosol baking in the oven when touch dry @ 50 degrees c normally hardens it so that this is not a problem

also use a higer temp paint and bake as well

Ye take them off via the screws on the frames (not the front you'll ruin the finish. I leae mine in there for 30 mins and it comes out good.

plasti-kote projekt paint
fast dry enamel
would the heat effect the wooden dumb buffers at all?
and what gas mark is 50 degrees c

Hmmm don't know about the gas mark, can't see it being above 1 though, for an oven 50 is not very hot. But that paint is one of the ones that needs heating, although it should be as soon as its touch dry when applied.
Don't think the heat should affect the buffers as they are fairly big and are poor heat conductors

But i didnt read it, so i didnt see it, but now i know, so there sno need to go on about it
i baked it for 30mins at gas mark 1, didnt work, still goes taky

I still prefer to use the High temp paint that is used on car brake calipers and bake for 3 hours at 100C
