Making Viadukt's
i have posted this on the 16mm e group but now have given up on them as ken keeps disapproving my messages and wont say why.
so
whats the best way to make some viadukt, the same as on ptlr, but more simple, just arches, no bits that come further out on the side.

Well next time you see any second-hand magazines for sale, keep an eye out for the June 1969 Railway Modeller; that has an article describing the construction of a viaduct for an 7mm scale railway, but I should imagine the construction techniques would be the same for 16mm.
Alternatively, GRS sell ready-made concrete viaduct sections, so I expect they would be able to give you avice about installing them. See their online catalouge at http://www.grsuk.com/ - the viaducts are in the "LafTec Concrete Products" section.

Begone for such a suggestion.Matt wrote:Well, you could ask ptlrcecil how he and his dad made theirs, or you could built some pillers, and by some gilder bridge sections from brandbright.
Yeah its easiets to make yourself a set of moulds and cast the arches one at a time with some steel rebar reinforcements keying each arch together. Hope this helps.

what do you make the mould out of?
MFR board, plywood. Old furniture panels with smooth sides do the trick alright. It saves buying brand new wood that after youve made the bridge will never be used again. Or will it?

i can realy see how your is made, is it loads of single arches on top of legs, or single arches with legs in one go
if i didnt do that viaduct, i would try and do a more simple version of this

or a wooden tressel viaduct, but the problem with that is it would rott and warp after a while.
why the heck have you suddenly become Gandalf and banishing me from the great golden halls of garden railways?ptlrcecil wrote:Begone for such a suggestion.Matt wrote:Well, you could ask ptlrcecil how he and his dad made theirs, or you could built some pillers, and by some gilder bridge sections from brandbright.

(slams stick down and looks a bit of a dick)
Back on topic
The arches where cast seperate from the piers but are keyed together with bits of rebar that run through out the length of the pier. The arches are keyed together as well using the same method.
Essentially you can get away with just two moulds, on for piers, one for arches.

In that case bungled shoulded be changed to "Everoned" since there are very few topics that stay on topic in this place.Matt wrote:Bungled: to change the topic of a topic in the very popular Garden Railway Forum. Invented by SillyBilly.
