A day at Hollycombe
A day at Hollycombe
Today I went along to the Hollycombe Steam Collection to see visiting engine 'Palmerston' from the Ffestiniog railway on the Quarry Railway.
If you haven't been before, you MUST go. Steam driven fairground rides, three different railways and loads of traction engines make for a great day out.
You can see my pictures on my Fotopic site:

A video is to come, mid week I suspect
Enjoy

Some great pics there. I like the one of Jerry M and Palmerston together at the station. This is the first time I have seen a pic of the actual Jerry M, having only seen a 16mm version in the past.

"Who has stolen the 3 link coupling off the end of my train?!?!
.....[a few minutes pass hunting down replacements].....
"So, which comedian has uncoupled my entire train?!?!"

Aaah, so that Kerr Stuart-like is the suprise visiting loco! When we ere there last weekend I kept on asking our supervisor what it was going to be, he is quie high up in the organisation, and not even he knew! The train stops in the quarry for passengers to look at the view not to blow up, last weekend the cloud was so low that we didn't bother stopping. The SG diesel loco has a Rolls-Royce Engine in it.
Great pictures Si!

I was told that if the loco needs a blow up, then it stops even if the view isn't very good...SillyBilly wrote:Aaah, so that Kerr Stuart-like is the suprise visiting loco! Hi Si, I think your mystery locomotive is Durley Light Railway No.2, which is a Hunslet 0-4-2T originally built as a 3' 0-4-2ST, ex British Aluminium, Fort William.
So it should be in the Lochaber Narrow Gauge Railway book. I've got a copy but no idea which box it is hidden in.
If you use the search engine on this website you will get some more details, although it took me several attempts to get it to work properly (and the photo is not of the actual loco) - http://a.1asphost.com/uklocos/search-by ... ay&id=1998

Nice pictures Simon Looks like a good day, real shame I wasn't able to be there. Were they allowing general public access to the quarry and lineside areas beyound the triangle, or did you just have a friend in a high place? When I was there last year (see http://steamandheritagerailways.fotopic ... 32744.html ) I was only able to get pictures around the station area, which rather limited the photographic opportunities...

As long as we were at least a metre away, we could go where ever we wanted toMuzTrem wrote:Nice pictures Simon Looks like a good day, real shame I wasn't able to be there.
