3 1/2 gauge Tich help

Post by Sammmm » Tue Jun 07, 2011 9:35 pm

Hi i was just wandering about the boiler on the Tich about whether it needs to be brazed as said in LBSC book of how to build it or if silver solder would be sufficient as its used in 16mm coal fired boilers ??

Silver solder all the way, brazing could be a bit problematic to get tested.. I know my club wont pass new build braized boilers..

I think that you are perhaps being confused by the terminology.

What you call silver soldering is actually the incorrect name.  The correct name is silver brazing.

"Silver brazing

Silver brazing, colloquially (however, incorrectly) known as a silver soldering or hard soldering, is brazing using a silver alloy based filler. These silver alloys consist of many different percentages of silver and other metals, such as copper, zinc and cadmium."
