The Silverdale Light Railway (North) Grand Re-Opening

Post by SLRmidge » Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:28 pm

Whilst the Royal Wedding celebrations took place we, at the SLR(N), held our own celebrations for the reopening of the railway after much rebuilding work. I counted 15 folk and around a dozen loco's. Some pics.....

More pics...

I thought the 5mph speed restriction added by Laalratty on the unrebuilt section was a slight overreaction!

He he, well that state of the unrebuilt section did justify the speed restriction  :P

The decoration in the garden strangly suggested another big occasion had happened today...
Image
"Quarry Hunslet" had bought along a nice little AnDel Ffion, which unlike PTLR cecils Ffion, could actually pull the skin off a rice pudding
Image
90733 (Jack) had bought along his lovely Roundhouse Jack

Guest of honour was an Archangel Little Wonder. Unfortunatly it only managed a few laps, but the double exaust sounded great on the grades

Linda from the Coniston Railway, which had a wild day!

Another new Roundhouse Jack, this one on just its second steaming

PTLR cecil bought Sir Robin, now finally performing to its full potential fitted with a modern day gas fired Lady Anne boiler, and (shock, horror!) fitted with a Summerlands chuffer!!!
Image
Final runner was Hartside from the Forest Fields Railway, we will shortly be heading there again for another June steamup
Many thanks to SLR midge for finally rebuilding his railway, meaning events like this happened with much less hassel
Also thanks for all the food provided, although it won't have done much good for people's weight!!!
Now then, next up is PTLR fest.... :D (please note though this isn't on the first May bank holiday as usual)
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Fantastic stuff, looks like a good time was had by all. Some very nice stuff running there as well. The new bits of line are looking superb as well.
Tommy Dodd may have an ARS key but I have a TASS button & a Rope Ladder, just like pirates, except the TASS button bit.

Excellent stuff there! Nice to see it reopen, if anything I'd say the speed restriction was an under reaction - slow trains are better!
