My Uncle's railway (eventually)

Post by laalratty » Sun Apr 24, 2011 10:38 pm

As many of you will know, I've have in my possesion a Roundhouse Taliesin, because I appear to have the best uncle in the whole world. :D Said uncle has finally decided to start building a railway, although you wouldn't blame him for being just a bit daunted...

Yes that is some slope. A very steep slope!!
However despite this, work has started on vegetation clearance (the jungle used to be even more rampent then SLR midges!) with a view to commencing survey work soon

The bonfire did get quite big...

Meanwhile dad proceeds with some light demolishion, the bricks will come in useful I think.
With such a steep slope, I'm thinking of an end to end line on a continuous grade, Cwmcoediog style with at least one spiral. We're going to start near the bottom and see how far up we can get!!!
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Well over the past month, things have accelerated a bit, to the extent that there have been a few changes
Image
First of all the inside of the shed. I don't have a "before" pic but suffice to say that it is a lot tidier. The lower terminus will be on the left of the pic.
Image
Moving outside and a lot of the vegetation has been removed, and whats left has been weedkilled! (except the Forsythia, which is under strict instructions to keep)
Image
The other side. Last week SLRmidge turned up and here he is pointing at an interesting lump of soil
Image
Meanwhile near the shed and work has started on preparing for the first section of trackbed
