Rebuilding of the Silverdale Light Railway (North)
Rebuilding of the Silverdale Light Railway (North)
After the awful weather last December and the subsquent frost heave on a large stretch of trackwork, I (with much needed help from Laalratty!) have finally got round to start rebuilding about half of the line.
The new station site for Waterslack...
The new position of Thrang End Gravel Works, overlooking the flooded quarry....
The now derelict Thrang End Halt....ah!

I fear you will disappointed Jack, track on concrete bases dosn't get grown over, not for the first year or so anyway. However, the dodgy (track wise) bit at the top that gets grown over isn't getting touched this time. Eaves Wood station (where PTLRcecil used to like setting the vegitation on fire with meths fired engines) has however gone and will be getting the new trackbed.90733:49660 wrote: I liked Thrang End halt, it had was cool , however, aslong as the covered track comes back, it will be as god as ever
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Nope, since you last visited Midge has erected a wooden bridge and the crossing at the top is still nicely covered in vegetation. Still, lineside fires are prototypical!!ptlrcecil:49819 wrote:So can i bring a meths engine round now without the fire brigade?

They'll have a flamin' good time I'm sure...
Actually I suspect the you will find the SLR north a bit more to your manual locos liking now Si, now that the vicous 1 in 35 (yes that steep...) gradient has been removed...

I like it!
I've noticed that you use quite a bit of "astro turf" in scenic sections of the Silverdale Light Railway, I've followed your lead and aquired a large off cut from the local garden centre
So many questions................................. do you "fix" it in place or leave it loose? If you fix it down, what with? Do you have any fading problems with sunlight? or moss growth in shaded damp areas?
I'll stop before the list gets monotonous, but any advice would be muchly appreciated - via PM if you don't want to clog the thread

Have had no problems with asro turf so far. Doesn't seem to fade & have had no trouble with moss. If its put down in an exposed, windy spot , I suggest you bury the edges in the soil or put something suitable with some weight on the edge. And the great thing is that you never need to cut it.
