The safety valve is only 1 of three, and from what I remember, the only other 40psi safety valve is now abroad!

Also thought I'd post a close up photo of something I discovered whilst painting the wheels...

Image

That shiney bit above the flange isn't the flange....it's the combustion chamber! I knew the front axle was loose, but I didn't know the loco was effectively eating itself

Well both the wheels and combustion chamber are due to be replaced at the next overhaul

"that sounds like something rubbing on the combustion chamber"

I'll have the wheel when you replace them, I have a plan......

I may I guide you towards your quote:

Anyhow, what I was hearing was a dodgy axlebox on the carriages it was pulling, my hearing wasn't sensitive enough for the loco  and are you sure you'll want Brit's wheels when the axles have worn through? :P

DLR Dan is the man with the plan.... 8)

Brit looks so much better for having some painted wheels, why didn't I suggest it to you years ago?!
"What the hell is that?"
"It's a model icebreaker sir."
"It's a bit big isn't it?"
"It's a full scale model sir....."

Chris Cairns:82270 wrote:James, great to see you have painted the half cab back as it had been looking a bit neglected recently.

I was very fortunate to be given one of Peter Jones's half cab backs as well, but I had difficulties painting it with our recent damp and cold winter/spring. Hopefully when it gets warmer I can give it a fine sanding and put on a final coat.

What paint do you use for the inside of the cab?

Sam you have left out Greg's (Narrow Minded) No.6 'Mary' & No.9 'Marion', Peter Jones Loco Works (Superbiker_uk) No. 3 'Lucy', No.4 'Rebecca' & No.5 'Ruth Ann' & Garrett's (Spule 4) Jan-mod.

And Britomart (at least it was when it started), Ofario & Pioneer are actually all MSS's.

Snowdon makes a rare appearance out of the worksto haul a small engineers train, and also to transport a vandalised waggon to the works for repair.

I do like the white (?) paint on the cylinder ends, works very well and is quite cool!
Thanks
Jack

Accucraft couplers? Nice call - just ensure you got a 4-5link 'adapter' chain for the hook or multi-height based stock. :)

...am I the only one who -hasn't- gone half cab on my engine?

Sam - Will send a PM in a bit!

Jack - Yep, it's cream paint (the same colour used on my rolling stock, loco cabs etc). I got my inspiration for that from the Penrhyn locos!

Doug - Snowdon has had Accucraft choppers for months now, it just hasn't been out for you (or many other people) to notice

Is the presence of the killer bunny a mere coincidence that there is a vandalised wagon?

Its not the Killer bunny... its The MK Metal Bunny... Or Metal for short... Although they have met in the past Killer Bunny and Metal have only stared each other out... There will be a Bunny Battle sometime in the future...

As some of you have seen via the various facebook groups, Pheonix has over the past few days been slowly disassembled for it's E exam, which involves a full strip down of the loco, and for those that aren't on the various groups, here is a little timeline of what local residents have seen being shunted outside of the erecting shops...

Image

Pheonix being transferred after a few months of storage from the loco shed to the erecting shops

Image

Later on Brit shunts the loco into another part of the shops for further work

Image

With the valve blocks now off the loco, it was time for the cylinders to come off

Image

Currently Pheonix is now in quite a few pieces, to re-appear sometime soon as a working loco once more! :D

Not much has been updated here of late, however, all that can wait for later. With the news of a friend who has tragically lost his life, which is not only sad news for me, but for many other people associated with the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways, I thought that I could not let this pass without anything done, so Britomart was brought out of hibernation for a run.
