Rain mostly stopped play this afternoon, did however dig,cut & level the next section ready for sealing in.
The line is certainly changing elevation now even though it's all as level as I can get it. Having gone from underneath ground level to a few inches above in about 12 feet.

Hopefully when it's all done it should make a nice viewing place for trains passing by at that spot.

In the top pic where the new unsealed in section is & in the bottom pic where it's taken will be a jnc that will eventually go behind the little shed & into the big one with a slight gradient. The mainline & the one I am tackling first will go infront (to the right) of both sheds. Need to build a steel lift out bridge of about 5ft in length to go infront of the little shed to allow access. Well that will save me builing it up there.

Looking very nice, like the long sweeping curves. Are you keeping that mound of earth, it looks like a nice ledge if your going for the welsh look.

Actually the mound will need even more topsoil, I promised the wife I would make it into a rockery kind of affair. Plan to border the mound with rocks as if the line had been blasted through it. Have used sandstone as the lawn border which I got from near my folks house in a place called Chyknell (Hence CVLR as that was where my first attempt at building a line was). Hope to add more sandstone from that area to bring the roots of teh CVLR to this line. Having said that slate will also feature quite a bit, just need time to do a quick trip across the border to get some! :D

As for sweeping curves, I hope to make as many direction changes as possible to avoid most straight bits where possible. I just feel it fits well into the whole narrow gauge look without long TGV style straights. Although on some sections I will have to have them.

Yup, looking good there.
I too prefer more curves to straights, The DVLR will have few straight sections in it when done. Liking the fact that you are already building and thinking of beyond the line side fence...

Ta for the replies, work has been slow the last few days due to work/family etc. Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours this afternoon though to seal in the last section of lintels I laid. Ready now for the bridge to be built, although will probably get heights the other side of bridge gap & work on that at the same time as the bridge is built. Still yet to build up the embankment/cutting where the mound of dirt is but just awaiting another trip to my folks to get more local sandstone first.

A posed set of pics with my Edrig, hopefully won't be long before I can run a brakevan special with this loco on the short stretch so far (as this one is RC). Waiting for the concrete to really harden, then drill it for rawlpugs & lay the track down. Then adjust & rowlands mix the lot.

Awsome, I love the way it snakes, like proper narrow gauge railways do.

Rest day from work today so after getting the wife's bday presents I got all afternoon to fettle. Still working on the same bit of the line, the aim being to showcase this to the CVLR's enviromental manager (The wife) to put her mind at ease with all the trenches & spoil knocking about at the moment in the garden. Well it's passed & even the mother in law although sceptical at first has passed it as "very good" & it's achieved a adds well to the garden award from her... :D Well thats good enough for me.

Landmark date today for the line as the first sections of line were laid permanently, trackbed drilled, rawlplugs fitted & track screwed down. SO now all the sections with trackbed are laid & the first test train ran (IP Rapier with a brakevan).

Image

Then when all was settled it was time to drop the first load of Rowlands mix over the trackbed & get it wet... Will see tomorrow how it sets & which bits I need to touch up on. More plants added & another plantbed dug (not in the pics here as only finished it at 10:30pm   ) Plus laid the station throat on this section, two through lines & one siding is the aim so far.

More pics, you love pics...right?! :D :D :D

A view from the branch towards the mainline. Only 1 yd long so far & built using 21 year old peco SM32. It's a little wonky but within my tolerences. This is not going to be like the WCML, I want dips, bumps & offcant bits, but not to serious to affect running of course.
