Right, I finally decided to cut the sheet in half and enclose the guard's compartment a little more to protect the desk against the elements (although Suffolk hasn't exactly got a wild, wet climate...) It looks rather good I think... and still plenty of space for my fingers for operating the break pump. Anyway had a bit of a disaster. The 45mm gauge bogies are too wide to pivot between the foot boards. I had to prise them off which coursed some damage and will have to re-afix them somehow 5mm further out. The bogies are great though, really smooth running, sturdy and simple to build.

Oh dear, this is a bit embarrassing...
The rolling stock category model of the year winner can't put a kit open carriage together properly!!!
I miss read the instructions and the steps are supposed to go on the outer edges of the floor, not glued to the further in frames. After a word with Andy he is going to look at the instructions and see what might have mislead me. I did this before with the bug box windows... Will I ever learn??!

Ok, the guards compartment has been detailed and the ends have been glazed. I built internal frames of coffee stirrers around the windows to hide the edges of the glazing. I used a thicker type of glazing than supplied in the kit as personally I think it looks better. The roof is now glued on and has been covered with blackout material. The guards compartment roof hinges up for access to the break stuff and for future detailing. Couplings have been added, I need to make some break stands and fit the pneumatic breaks and the door handles and we're pretty much there! Pics to follow.

And here we are with those pictures....
The connection between stock
awaiting new footrests....
The colour looks dreadful under flash light.
Lift the lid of the guards compartment to access the break pump
The detailing on the interior. Now I need a guard and a tiny cup of tea....
