yeah ok, I too was thinking that painted benches looks a little too like a park bench!
Stain it is!

The outside of the carriage will be teak and the interior a light piney colour. I don't wont to spend too much on it so I will do what my railway would have done...
Use what's left in the back of the shed!
Update at the end of the weekend...

It is not a W and L Pickering but as usual of free lance deign loosely inspired by allot of carriages I like. A few more pictures of today's tinkering and the balconies
The ends of the carriages have a long way to go...
The carriage used to be an IP engineering 2 compartment 4 wheeler until I got my hands on it!
The (hopefully) working brake hoses are shown in the pictures...
as well as my macbeth book and various other clutter on my computer desk.

This picture is trying to explain the linking brake hoses between carriages. One end is a male connector and the other female. The hoses are nice and flexible whilst being sturdy under pressure so should do nicely...

I like the curly iron work on the balcony end - did you make it yourself??

yes the "iron work" is made myself custom for the DVLR. All LASER cut of course! Miniature continuous braking is indeed the ambition. Many are calling me mad for trying it but I like a challenge!

The working brakes sounds facinating, nothing mad about that and if you can understand Shakespear (which baffles me!) then the brakes will be easy

The balcony ends are fantastic and its amazing what a laser cutter can do.. such fine intricate work. Dont let your cat anywhere near it!! I think the trophy is yours!

I think the brakes are a brilliant idea! :D

I wondered a while back if it was possible to do anything like that, and it looks like it's about to me answered! :D

Hope it goes well!

Looking GREAT and as for the brakes - well...... I hope you pull that one off, can't wait to see the result :D

Is this still a 4 wheeler then? - any chance of an overall photo yet?

'fraid to say the brakes are going to stay TOP SECRET until the show when all will be revealed. I haven't really done much to the outside yet- better get cracking!!! Next weekend- photos hopefully! Although I am a little busy watching the relaunch of sirapite, a little aveling and porter geared loco, at leicston- I'll take some pics of that for deffo. Thanks for all the kind comments- really a boost in these dreary times of revision...

The brake gear is coming along nicely although I'll have to re-cut a few bits and make some new sole bars... Update soon!
Right, got allot of work done on the over all assembly. It is not after any particular prototype but has elements of allot of different ones much like all my scratch builds. I posted about it a while back- it is a tumble home sided match board balcony end carriage. Here's an over view.
Image
I still don't want to reveal the brake system yet for fear that people would still have time to replicate it for the competition...
(although they probably aren't mad enough to do so!)
Here are some little pictures and timetables I have made for the inside!

Even if you get the brakes to work, what are you going to use as a vacuum pump? And have you got valves on each end of the coach?
