Self Powered Sybil

Post by Narrow Minded » Fri Jan 29, 2010 4:22 pm

After a strip down I managed to remove the ballast weight from Sybils boiler to make space for a battery pack.

There still wasn't enough clearance so I had to add the side "panels", blanking off the view under the boiler and above the frames................this in turn meant I had to narrow the LGB chassis to fit! :?

A DPDT switch on the rear buffer beam and she's now free running so the Battery Carrying Van (BCV) has been returned to normal service.

I thought now I'd also better fit lamp brackets fore and aft for light engine movements and while she was "in bits" I added regulator and sight glass detailing to the backhead.

At the moment 4xAA (6 volts) with just forward and reverse. It gives a nice steady speed with a light load.

The next step will be to fit 6xAA (9 volts) and a regulator.

I used an LGB chassis for my Locolines Hunslet but I replaced the motor with a 3 volt one, but wanted to leave this one "as is"
